3x 400HPS Vs 2x 600HPS?

I'm looking at buying a couple of lights to get ready for my indoor grow. I'm debating weather to get 3x 400HPS or 2x 600HPS both types will be with adjustashades.

 

Also I can't decide weather to go for the medium sized adjustashade 60x55cm or the large adjustashade 98x70cm

 

The room will most likely be 1.25m deep x 3-4m wide x 2m high and I'll be growing 3 to 4 large plants.

 

First grow will most likely be a soil grow, and I might try DWC on the 2nd or 3rd (if I can be bothered )

so I'd go with the 2 600watters SCA.

3 x 600w will produce a lot of heat this time of year though.. :thumbdown

 

I'm hoping my next grow will be 2 x 600w on a light mover.. :scratchin

 

My grow area is about the same size as yours..

Get the 3 x400w if you want to spread the light out over a wider area. If you want to concentrate more light on a smaller area go with the 2 x 600w. It will probably work out cheaper in the long run to buy 2 x 600w globes(ballast etc) then 3 x 400 w globes (ballast etc).

Frazz, like bongon said I'd also be concerned about the amount of heat with 3x 600 HPS.

 

sydneyguy the 2x 600HPS do work out slighly cheaper than 3x 400HPS

I would go the 2 x 600w's with and option to go to a third later, the 600w gives you more yield per watt than the 400w too. As for the reflector, go for the one that fits into your grow room best without getting in your way all the time.

Hey mate,

 

a good rule of thumb is 900mm x 900mm will do a 400watt light, 1200mm x 1200mm will do a 600watt light and 1500mm x 1500mm will do a 1000watter.

 

Therefore im my option you will need 3 x 600watters in that space for optional light conditions, because your room is long and skiny.

 

but having said that if i was to choose between 3 x 400watters or 2 x 600watters, then in this case i would take the 400watters because of the long skiny room.

So if this is your proposed space for the whole grow (veg & Flower)?

If it is you must have serious venalation/heating to be running 2-3 lights in that space !.

 

3 x 400 (shade dependant) I would think (my opinion) would over load with light (intensity). In the deep resivours of whats left of my memory I seem to recall such a thing as 'too much light (intensity) - some neruons are firering up in the background. too far back and too deep. A non-event ("malthought").

 

I am assuming that your Max height is 2m and that this is where you have "adjustibles". May be "adjustables" refer to the shades being adjusable and not the height.

 

Feck knows what they [adjustables] are. I am guessing that they do what they are named after and adjust the light (hopefully height). I return after and see the terms "adjustashade 60x55cm" or the "large adjustashade 98x70cm" :scratchin

 

Logic :exclamation: = why would you need to adjust the height of a 400 or 600w light if it is for a GR 2m high x 1.2 deep & 3 - 4m long. I can see why selection of the right 'shade' could have an impact - it being 1.2 m deep.

I know not about shades.

 

Looking at your space I'd go for 2 x 600's - I just thinking heat - but I guess you have that sorted !
