Nutrient precipitate

Recommended Posts

Hi team, I looked into my nute reservoir today to see a fair amount of greyish sludge at the bottom! I gave the tank a good shake but it did not dissolve again.

I have recently switched to Dutch Advanced nutes.

Is this ok? SHould I be doing something?

As always, I know I will get swift and informative advice...thanks!

Sure it's not an organic substance growing from your nutes?

Do you sterilize/distil your water before use? Using tap or rainwater?

Sounds to me like it could possibly be some form of algae/water-born mold... but that's a wild speculation at best lol

Thanks for the quick responses.

More info as requested:

I mixed the nutes _exactly_ as per the instructions. I sis use tap water, but I have been adding H2O2 regularly and there is no smell.

As for light, the tank is opaque, but there is a $0.20 size hole in the very top. If light was getting in, in would not be much as the tank is above the lights.

The plants are looking good. Nice and green and growing quickly.

What is the temp of the water? Room temperature!! Sorry, but I have no idea of the temp, but it has been bloody hot up here! I have no airsone in there....should I?

After I stir the tank, the crap settles back to the bottom.

Think that covers all the questions..... :thumbsup

I had a closer look in the tank. The stuff clumps together and is white in colour. It reminds me of the white stuff that sticks to an orange after you peel it.

hi there mate it sounds like the heat could have done the damage , i was gatting the same issue a while back and the problem was that my second mixing pump was dirty on the inside so it was heating up . turn pumps on then feal for heat, maby your still running your heater? but proberly not mixing enough and heat related unless you use canna zym or simular and you are killing it with the peroxide. is it grity or sludgy if grity dont mix so much as my nutes like to be used up in a week or two run to waste, do you do complete nute changhs with a res clean if no bacteria does stick to the sides and in that case once there is bad bacteria present it does not take time to overwhelm tank but mainly in a reserc system.

Hey bro,

only guessing, but it sounds like nutrient lock up to me (greyish cloud in tank), Dutchmaster have just released there new feed charts, maybe the nutes are reacting with the h202 you are adding into the tank, have seem this before when adding anything that is really alkaine or acid in nature - like h202, pk13/14, silica magic etc.

I you are going to add h202 to your resi, then do it first before you add any other nutrients, to stop any reaction taking place.

hope this helps mate

Jack
