Reflectors???

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine has supposedly had problems with burning the edges of the leaves when using silver reflectors

They're called "hot-spots" an area of focus where the light intensity is greater than the surrounding surface. Technically you can create a laser-like affect if you bothered to do the math and used a "shiny" relfective surface.

Personally I reckon you're better with a white surface as a reflector, the spectrum stays intact better and light isn't focused or "split" as opposed to "mirrorlike" surfaces.

(All the above is based on conjecture, I didn't research it properly).

I would have thought most metallic reflectors would absorb a portion of the light's energy as heat, just due to the temp. conductive nature of most metals... especially ally.

Hiya reflector folk

I use a batwing and for the rest of the room the white side of roofing foil (mylar!) I have a fan right on the light sucking air away (400 HPS) to help keep heat down. I've also covered all my tubs etc with mylar to help keep temps down.

Algae was mentioned - lightproofing will help. There is a uv light used by Aquarists that also kills algae water is run over it. If you go big it's well worth researching.

Silver gets hot spots a lot easier and must be installed smooth.

Roofing foil is cheap but comes in big rolls.

Good luck with your grow.
