New York, October 14: Researchers have claimed marijuana might make the brain grow, contradicting the popular belief that addictive drugs inhibit the growth of new brain cells.

A study conducted at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada found that injections of a cannabis-like chemical seem to have the induced new brain cell growth, just as some antidepressant drugs do.

Experts were quoted nature magazine as saying that the results, if borne out by further studies, could have far-reaching implications for addiction research and the application of marijuana in medicine.

For several years now, researchers have been interested in how drugs affect a part of the brain known as the hippocampus. This region is unusual in that it can grow new neurons throughout a person's lifetime. Researchers, nature said, have theorised that these new cells help to improve memory while combating depression and mood disorders

Old news mate.... it's unconfirmed also, further studies with normal THC (not HU-210) have found no reaction in the hyppocampus.

Essentially increases the capablities/capcity of your "epsodical memory", that is memory which is triggered by a chain of events called an "episode". Interestingly enough if proven to be true - this could indicate the brain tries to compensate for short-term memory degradation by increasing capcity of other memory centres.

Not saying it's not a good thing, but don't immediately jump to the conclusion that smoking/eating MJ makes you wise or smart :devilred:
