Party's over for parents

Recommended Posts

AT the height of his nightmare with amphetamines and marijuana, Ben Trueman did not sleep for three days.

He sat on his roof with a shotgun and waited for "them" to come and get him.

"They" never arrived, and another drug -- the anti-depressant Serapax -- brought him down to earth.

Four years on, Mr Trueman is against so-called party drugs.

"Amphetamines and marijuana are not soft drugs," he said. "They are lifestyles and change people into different people."

Mr Trueman, 24, lives in home-detention on bail, awaiting charges of stealing, but holds down a job in a sink factory. His partner is expecting a baby.

He and his mother, Ruth Trueman, rarely saw eye-to-eye when he was on drugs. But they agree that her marijuana habit contributed to Ben turning to drugs as a teenager.

"Mum and her friends smoked cannabis, and that probably programmed me a bit," he said. "It was around the house and easier to get a hold of than it might have been."

Ms Trueman said her relaxed attitude restricted the choices her son could make about drugs.

"I was partying on the weekends and using marijuana and white wine when he was growing up," she said.

"It was good enough for me, but it was clearly not good enough for him."

Their insight was mirrored this month by the landmark report into mental health in Australia, Not for Service.

"Cannabis would be the best example of something that's assumed by parents and teenagers themselves to be not particularly harmful," report author Ian Hickie said.

Parents are one of the biggest influences on teenage drug use, the report says. "If parents smoke, their kids smoke. If parents are significant users of alcohol or other drugs, their kids use at much higher rates."

Ms Trueman now works for Teen Challenge, which provides drugs counselling for families.

:devilred: funny how its always pot and this or pot and that, never pot by itself, its only when you mix with other drugs that the "evil problems of marijuana" surface :devilred: maybe its the fact that marijuana kicks in drugs and brings out the evils of the other drugs?

Yep, I bet it was a wonderful childhood with mum disagreeing and arguing all the time all while 'drinking wine and smoken it up'

..........he said. "It was around the house and easier to get a hold of than it might have been."
:scratchin

I wonder if it was the wine that was more accessable.

I hope she has stopped 'drinking & smoking' around her kids. :smoke

So how dose teen cannabis compare with teen alcohol consumption? :scratchin

If you've ever had a smoke while off your tree on a couple of trips, then you'll know that above is true. :devilred:

It's only when these people let their SELF CONTROL go out the window that the EVILS OF THE DRUGS make it into the media too?

You think?

Ol MJ has 'rescued' me from bad trips, and always makes the experience a lot more immersive and enjoyable. But that's just me.

And I have never tripped really heavily either (although I have tripped a good amount of times), never more than 2... although they were two pretty strong ones.

These reports seem to be coming in on a daily basis like these people have an hidden agenda, namely to change the laws regarding marijuana

like banning cannabis is going to solve half the mental health problems...yeah right but no thought to curbing alcohol, pharacuticals etc

Worst of all there is not one single person out there to challenge or refute these outrageous reports on marijuana

Cannabis needs a spokesperson like never before !

ay musha :whistling

Has this guy ever considered that he might just be mad (FUCKED IN THE HEAD) to begin with?

::devilred:: ::devilred:: So true Hanky, you managed to correctly diagnose his problem without a consultation.

""They" never arrived, and another drug -- the anti-depressant Serapax -- brought him down to earth. "

Serapax would be one of the most addictive, dangerous barbituates made!

"Ms Trueman said her relaxed attitude restricted the choices her son could make about drugs."

How many choices are there, you can either use them or you don't.

They are both certifiable raving lunatics, and they are allowed to bred....ffs these fuckwits need to be put out of thier misery asap.
