TWO people will appear in court after police found an extensive hydroponic cannabis cultivation operation in a Sydney home.

Police searched a house in Spitfire Drive at Raby in Sydney's southwest yesterday and found the hydroponic set-up under the house, in the dining room and three upstairs bedrooms.

Investigators seized 336 cannabis plants, growth lamps, chemicals and a sum of cash.

A 25-year-old woman and 41-year-old man were arrested at the house and charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of prohibited plants and goods in custody.

The will appear in court next month, police said.

336 plants, I wouldn't like to be facing that hearing.

Just curious but how come we never see "72 year old Italian man, busted for operating a home distillery" as a headline?

Distilling alcohol (as opposed to fermenting beer or wine) is illegal and very rarely you might hear of the odd bust.

A few years back an elderly man (over 70) in Alexandria got busted with a backyard full of pot. He had taken measures to protect his crop (he had 3 metre fences with barbed wire and two rottweillers in his yard) but he got busted by helicopter. He told the magistrate he smoked because it made him 'feel young'. He got off with a light fine.
