FRAMES the other option

Recommended Posts

MODERN TIMES

it has recently become apparent to me that some growers are unaware of the benefits of frames and the people that do :P , even people that consider themselves to be major growers most are still not aware of aluminum tubbing. Its cheap and so are solid plastic fittings to suit. it always is a shame to see so much effort and money that goes into some setups all to have it spoilt by a dodge bit of wood banged together absorbing mold and who knows what other dieses.

also the strengh and weight of wood are a pain in he ass. :thumbdown

I would like to hear others views on this.

I actually prefer a mix of both as aluminium has the great downside of not stoping any sound from escaping,

one thing I would say aswell though is be wary of using longer pieces of aluminium as the longer it is the more flex and less strengh you get out of it, I prefer my pieces to be no longer than a meter , which is good enough to let me climb anywhere ontop of my grow room that I need to do work without risking bending alluminium, or you can store whatever you like up there to safe on floor space if you use wood aswell :P

so yeah imo they are both good options and work great together aswell , for people worried about mould absourbing into their walls , wack on a thick paint job over the wood when you get it and treat your room with something like mircobile after each grow or two

Heya JB

I agree .. frames are good .. I have used square shapped plastic 'tubing' - found a few pix that show the result.

Its sturdy and solid - I put a piece of mdf 1 metre square on top of each of the frames after covering with panda. Each bit of mdf has a hole in the top (200mm) with extractor fan - also have another small flowering area using an old bunkbed for a frame (:P) it has an extractor set into one of the slats on top which sucks in a/c'd air from the growroom through the plants in there and dumps it into the main chamber ... then it gets sucked up into the ceiling cavity (sorry gets to be a long story..)

anyway, I reckon frames are good but have restricted my growing height ... I'm thinking of ditching the bunkbed and hanging Panda from ceiling to floor for next grow .. so frames are good depending on your setup and space imo - not sure which of the two would weigh less .. Alu or plastic tube ? reckon they'd be about as strong ... possibly less bend from plastic? especially the higher you go. mine 2mtrs tall with supports and cross slats at 1 mtr, except for the 'doors' at the front.

Does using wood as the frame really absorb any sound? looks from the pic of that lumin frame that it would be covered in panda or somehing ... surely there couldnt be any noise cancelling difference tween wood and lumin and plastic .. ?

This is what it will look like at 5 and a half weeks with all the leaf striped off, also for all the name brand people its northen lights x sorta skunk

This one was a lesson about getting the tough stuff first the 25mm frame started to bend at 4 weeks, I dont know why" it might of been the 6 x 600w lights or the 2 rails, six jumbo shades or it might of even been the two stainless 30cm inline fans :scratchin but it was all rescued by the 4 acro props donated by the local construction site.

"well sorta donated"

back to the 35mm square pipe now.
