HPS + MH

Im going to experiment with dual lighting using a 1000 watt adjusta shade and two bulb sockets, one will have a 600 watt HPS and the other a 250 watt MH.

 

I beleive this dual spectrum setup will enhance the grow somewhat.

 

ATM Im growing 4 plants in expanded clay and recirculating drip system with bottled co2 and a mover. The last grow produced massive buds and I want to see if I can do better this time.

The strain is unknown...it came from a mixed assortment of seeds from MJOZ.

thats great buddy , i'm running the same sort of test this time around , the 600 hps plus the 400 mh ..... in the same room . the plants under the hps seem to be growing faster , the mh ...... more lanky at the moment . good luck with the grow mate :smoke

Would have liked to squeeze the 1000 watt HPS bulb in but it was too long so we'll see how we go with this setup.

You might get some benifit, but as you'll have a smaller globe and a larger unit, the light may not reach very far from the smaller MH globe. Still, more light is more light, but don't expect spectacular differences. Remember the inverse square law with lighting.

I wasnt expecting any benefit from the intensity of the MH, just curious as to the benefit of the blue light spectrum mixed with the orange/red. Similar to the Son-T plus combination lamp.

I think you will notice an improvement for sure whether or not you're getting value for money with that extra 250 watts is another question. I think you will notice a bigger improvement if you change your bulbs more regularly. I think I remember you posted in another thread your bulbs are 2 years old and you're still using them...

It's a good experiment but Luke has pointed out one major drawback with the idea, I would be more inclined to run 2 Son-T's but at the same time I am curious to see how your idea works out Buddy.

Ive had these bulbs over three years ...they have sentimental value, how can I toss them?

 

Yeah I know I should replace them and I will after this current grow.

The Son-T plus uses the standard 600w HPS ballast.

hey bro,

 

been using dual lights for while now, and i find the main advantage is that you can make a flore cycle go for two more weeks- thus you get very large colas. But have only done it with Freedom Bucket style of grow.
