Was getting my 600 hps lights out of storage this arvo and it occured to me i should probably get new bulbs cause i cant even remember how much work they've done. :peace:

How long are they good for and how can ya tell when you need new ones?

or doesn't it really matter ? :scratchin

When I bought mine, I was told they'd be good for 3 grows - 400w HPS - dont know if 600's last better :scratchin - read you can get a meter that reads your light output and indicates when a new bulb is needed?

It depends on your cycle ( if you flower or veg or both with em ) but I change my veg and flower room bulbs every 2 grows

with the money you save on bud it's not a bad investment to keep them fresh ( I also keep the freshest old ones as spares which really have another good grow in them) but you could go for a year with the same bulbs if your trying to save as much as you can , but they will degrade over that time

After about 12 months of use under 12:12 an average HID is only putting out about 1/2 of the lumens that it was when new. So at least that often, but I know of many who make it 6 or even 3 month changeovers, which can mean a bit of expense, but certainly pays for itself.

All HID lamps should be replaced at least once every 6 months IMO, that will ensure best lighting is possible, and won't break the bank.

My 600 watt HPS bulbs have seen around a dozen grows, veg and flower and they still do the job ok.

When they stop working, I'll replace them.

Thats what my old growing partner use to say.. he was a dodgy fella but still put out the results.. but...
