Cricket One Day World Cup

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what your opinions were regarding playing World Cup matches in Zimbabwe.

There are a couple of different questions....

Should the ICC and/or the ACB do as the politicians ask and officially pull out of matches scheduled to be played in Zimbabwe?

Do the various governments asking the cricket boards to boycott matches scheduled in Zimbabwe have a right to ask for a boycott when collectively or induvidually, they have not politically or economically sanctioned Zimbabwe?

Should the various governments politically or economically sanction Zimbabwe?

If the goverments did sanction Zimbabwe should the various cricket boards boycott matches scheduled in Zimbabwe?

My personal opinion is this. Unless the various governments politically or economically sanction Zimbabwe then the cricket boards should not bow to political pressure to boycott the matches scheduled to be played in Zimbabwe. If there were sanctions in place then I believe that the matches should still be played there. I don't think that we need to bring about the same type of situation that prevented one of the worlds best sporting nations. South Africa, from being able to test their skills against the rest of the world.

I also think that if we have played sport against countries such as China, Russia, pre-Berlin Wall East Germany etc.. despite their human rights record etc. then we shouldn't boycott Zimbabwe because of what is currently happening there.

 well sayd braistorm,..and to be honest, the news about Zimbabwe didn't even reach the Dutch news and papers,..that's how it's rated on the "scale of importancy" in the media here and uhh,.....what's cricket?

Anywayzz, let's keep politix out of sports,..they are dirty enough as it is.(doping, gambling, etc....) hehe..some of that Dutch humor.

Brainstorm has right! keep politix out of sports!
