GT purple rooting gel

G'day,

I was at bunnings today, and was looking at the rooting products ;) . Came across "Yates Clonex, purple rooting gel", looked on the label, and its Growth technologie's stuff. Cost $6.50 and from what I can tell is the same as the stuff in the hydro shop.... :scratchin

really you could root using unprocessed honey and/or aloe juice... :P OR *Shock Horror!* Nothing! But yeah, same stuff pretty much.

Some rooting hormones use a couple of auxins for root development, some use just the one, and others also provide a full spectrum nutrient in the gel. It's really a matter of if it works, use it, if it doesn't, consider a change after reviewing everything else.

I use the GT and have had excellent results, I've used rooting powder and not done as well, and other rooting formulas with mixed success.

IMHO, cloning is more about genetics, vigour of the shoot, and culture, and rooting hormones don't make or break the cutting. But hey, most of us use it, so either we're completely duped by "The Man" or it must work eh?

Can you tell I've been smoking?

Yeh, GT is the koots.....price tag isnt though. Im sure the "Yates clonex" comes from the same (GT) factory, and is just outsourced for Yates.......Same formula, but a lot cheaper :thumbsup

Nah, they're just made by different companies with slightly different ingredients. IBA is available in lots of rooting compounds.

The Yates brand doesn't have micronutes AFAIK, although I must add that that's not really necessary for excellent cuttings...

But I don't think they're made by the same factory, if anything, it would be the other way around, and I doubt that.

In the end, if you get good results using the Yates brand, by all means use it, but I think I'd prefer to do some comparisons of many cuttings before I poo-poohed one or the other. Ideally, you'd take say 100 cuttings, doing 20 of each in one kind of cutting gel/powder or natural alternative, and keep 20 as controls without any hormone. Of course, you'd get more accurate results with higher numbers, and I'd like to see the poor plant after taking a hundred cuttings, but you'd likely get a good idea about the best type for your conditions and strain with that method.

Hmmm, I shot an email out to GT's customer support, this is the reply.....

Hello

Yes it is the same product. Clonex is manufactured by Growth Technology in Western Australia. Yates buy in bulk and repack under there own label. They recognise a great product when they see it.
