Here's an idea - trial and error, experiment for yourself.

I've had success using Yates Thrive mixed with a little Blood and Bone and perlite.

Everest loves his Searles Potting mix.

Ultimately there's no "Best" mix, it's like saying there's a "Best" way to grow - it just comes down to your individual conditions and or circumstances and what works best for you.

I think the agreed consensus however is any "Premium" potting-mix (quality-controlled, the one with the red ticks) mixed with 30% Perlite will do you fine.

Sorry if it's not the answer you wanted, but your question has no 100% perfect answer :baaasmiley:

Elkel hit the nail on the head. There's no "best" because we all have to deal with different conditions, climates and plants, and in the end you just have to try and see how it goes.

It would be useful to have a state by state, or region by region even, suggestions for mixtures suitable to these areas. I'm sure many growers have been playing around working out what's best for their conditions in the areas they live, and if you live in a particular spot and plan to grow outdoors, it could help to have a list of proven mixes that work in these places... whaddya think? Of course it would only be general, and you'll likely find most growers use very distinctly different mixes in even the same area, but still, and generalised list of suitable supplies in various regions of Oz would be useful IMO...

I go through a lot of premium mix, and I have tried every premium mix available to find a brand that doesn't, from time to time, have a "dud" batch.

My findings: some more often than others, but they all have dud batches, ranging from apparently zero nutritional content, to downright toxic and quickly killing transplants within days of initial contact.

The brand that has, for me at least, had the fewest problems, is .......
