400MH OR 400HPSHORT.

Hi all: I have a 400mh, and a 400hps hort. Instead of using just one to veg. would it hurt anything if I put them together and have 800w on them from start to finish or will this be better for the end result of more buds. :reallyexcited:

You'd be much better off running the two. Its true that lights do use particular ranges of light spectrum in bloom and grow, however running them in parallel would double the light intensity. I always grow with both MH and HPS, its the closest you can come to simulating sunlight.

i'd veg on the mh until it was big enough, then when i change to 12/12 i'd switch them both on ....... thats me anyways just to save on power. Then when you have got huge buds you will be able to afford to throw that extra fan on :smoke

Yup. I'd agree with everest there. You also have to take into account your room size, you'd probably be better off with a single 600w hps which would produce the same amount of light as both 400w'ers.

 

But yeah, you increase light, you increase plant size/number of plants.

Heh....i got a 2m x 2m x 2.5m (tall) room.... 4x600hps + 1x1000mh

 

Works very nicely, tho like luke and everest have good points, a) electricity and heat. if you only got a small closet, putting more than 1 HID light in is just askin for trouble, unless u got some major airflow...
