Ozone generators, has anyone tried?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I just bought a Air tiger Ozone generator from Canada.

It works awesome it removes any smell within 2 min off turning it on.

My question is are they safe to use in a apartment, This thing says it covers 30,000 sq feet but my apartment is on second floor its 1,400 sq feet. Will prolonged exposure to an ozone do anything, because my grow room is 30 ft from my bed.

Thanks

Yeh man Ive used one..actually two....in a room....

They work extremely well....but leave your plants with less smell at the end of their growing as well...

Also ozone needs to be venitlated.....if you are going to use it dont use it inside where people live.....they might get ill

Use a carbon filter instead if u r going to grow inside

Yeah I'd have to second FOL's opinion... If you're going to use ozone make sure it's in a well ventilated area, you don't want that stuff sticking around after it nuetralises odors. If you have a well setup ventilation system, you could rig the ozone to a timer and with a little calibration and testing, you could have it so that the generator runs for 2 mins to clear the smell immediately before your exhaust kicks in and whisks the nasties out of there. That way the ozone is not allowed to buildup and seep into other areas of the house.

Even better, isolate the generator but place it in your vent system so that all exhausted air must pass via the ozone. A good example of this is an in-line generator ... you could do it other ways, but that might start to get too ambitious for an apartment grow.

Failing that, if you must use the generator without strong ventilation, I'd recommend that you work out a threshold where it can remove the odor with a minimum amount of usage... that way you minimise the risk of buildup. But for god's sake seal the room off from the other areas of the house ... the levels of ozone required to remove the smell from your average grow room are MUCH higher than what is considered safe. Your health has priority over the plants.

In answer to your other question, prolonged exposure to ozone will do something to you and your plants. Short term exposure to high concentrations can induce mild but temporary respiratory problems, and in the long term these can develop into permanent side effects. Put simply, this stuff will fuck your lungs up over time.

Don't let this post scare you off. I'm simply telling you the facts. If you can control the ozone adequately you will get by. Just do some research to fill in the holes and you'll be right.

Best of luck with it B)

Hey thanks guys for the fast response.

I had the generator on for like 2 hrs when i got it and it took the whole smell out of my aprtment. AND IT SMELLED LIKE REEFER BAD.

I knew there had to be more then what the machine said.

I got sore throught, and kinda a cold/flu the next day.

I have been feeling like shit for 3 days.

It is just sitting in the grow room right now, there is a vent to the roof ventilation I use for my grow light to remove hot air., but i Wanted to get rid of the smell in my aprtment because i was afraid of the neighbors smelling it.

I turn it on for like 5min to destroy all the smell then i turn it off till i get home the next day and put it on for another 5 min.

If i put it in the ventilation i made for my lights itll take the Ozone to the roof and out the vent up top, correct. Will it also destroy smell in room too??

This sucks because there is only a closet door, then my bedroom.

I hope i dont permenatly hurt myself for my damn plants.

Peace guys I gotta go to workin on the ventialtion

Stonedas once told me this cheap method, and I told a friend who a odour smell what stonedas told me, and it worked on him....

Get a filter bag and fill up with poturri (you know the dried roses, lavender, flowers mix that old ladies and mums dig.) and put it outside the exhaust fan, where its sucking the air out of the grow room, as the warm mj-odour air will go thru the potpurri filter bag, and it will make the room smell nice and rosey/lavendery. Worked well for my mate who has only a small set up of 4-6 plants, and he changed the potpurri every couple of week, as they cost almost fuck all, cheap to buy from baragin shops like Chickenfeed, Crazy Clark's etc etc

I don't reckon this method will work for large scale grow set ups with more than 5-8 plants.

what my mate did, he got a bucket and cutted the bottom, and put the bottomless bucket around the fan, and the filter on the outside and the warm air blowed thru the filter bag... reduced the "noticable mj odours" to more of a rosey/lady's bedroom .....

The inhalation of the ozone from ozone generators can lead to cancer, brain tumors and impotence..

Having an ozone generator that produces twice the amount of ozone for the given area only doubles your chances of becoming sick.

Here are two sources of which you can decide between the smell of marijuana maturing or degrading your health..

Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip there Urbie, ;) being a smaller grower myself I've struggled to find adequate smell reduction for a long time... I'm using the Vanilla ozona block right now, and that's doing well enough, but much as I love the scent of Vanilla planiflora, I really like the idea of the potpourri better... I'm tinkering with some ideas about a micro carbon filter for small scale wardrobe/cabinet type setups... I'll get back to you all on that one. ;)

As to the ozone, I'd say mix the ozone with your exhaust in the roof space, if you have a good enough fan running you should be able to ensure no smell goes back the other way... And if the ozone is mixed with the outtake in ducting and exhausted well out the roof too you can make sure you protect yourself.

I think a carbon filter may suit you better, kaliking, don't you? Although I suppose you've already shovelled out the dough for this generator already, so that may not be an option... just a suggestion...

Ozone generators are a health risk, everything I have read on their use (not a massive amount) recommends that they are not used for more than 5 minutes per hour in habited areas, they can also have a burning effect on the plants themselves.
