Just about ready to start the SCROG
This is my first time scrogging... first time with coco and first time with hydro... previously used tie-down techniques or topping in soil under good ol' sunlight! Given this room has a couple of very dominant plants, I will probably remove the lesser ones and just focus on 2 or 3 in the room as opposed to a hybrid SCROG/SOG approach which was my initial intention.
Being an avid gardener of many years (of the general variety), I am keen to experiment with other methods of training. In particular, Espalier. For those that aren't familiar with this technique it is a very old french technique used to train fruit trees etc in very small gardens to grow flat against a wall or trellis while maximising yield... (training plants lateral branches horizontally on a single plane). This would require tipping (to enourage multiple leaders), tie-down to train these horizontally along wires and pruning any branches that are perpendicular to the plane you are aiming to train the plant along; This is 'stepped' up the wall at intervals of your desire...it is quite a discipline! . This has many benefits which include getting the most amount of light to all parts of the plant. I guess (if I succeed) this would be akin to a SCROG type result only on a vertical plane; of which you could potentially get several in the one room as opposed to a single plane horizontally as with SCROG.
I hope to be able to post some findings with my experiments in the near future...
If anyone who reads this has any experience or has succeeded in attempting this tek I'd very much like to know about it!
