Sup, first time poster, short time lurker. so I have been doing some research on low-heat LED lighting systems and it seems to me that you can make a very cheap system in about 15 min, using blue and red led's and some Christmas lights. It seems that, blue LED lights by their nature of being blue, emit about 460nm wavelength (perfectly in the chlorophyll absorption range in the vegetative state 400 - 500 nm) and red LEDs by their nature of being red emit 660nm wavelengths (perfectly in the chlorophyll absorption range in budding state 600-700nm) dick smith/jaycar and others sell these for about .20 - 50c each. It seems that I can pin a blue LED filled Christma…

Hello Everyone, I have just purchased a 250W MH for keeping my mothers and vegging clones prior to putting them outside, just curious to see if anyone can give me an idea of how big (or small) a grow tent I will be able to use, I was hopping to have two mothers in the grow tent with at least four clones vegging (to about 30cm tall) continuously. what do you guys think?...is this feasible??

Am looking at setting up my first indoor grow. Purchased 4 130W CFL lights, 2 for growing (6400K and 14000K-blueish) 2 for flowering (2700K and 25000K-its purpleish). Using a converted outdoor dunny with about 90cm long, 60cm wide and as high as i need (2m, although won't go that high). Can double that space but starting small. From the info i can find on-line the 6400k and 2700k are right wondering about the others. How many plants (was thinking 2 or 3). Each CFL has approx 10-11000 lumens (so 20-24 at a time). Any advice appreciated.

Hi all, I use a 600w growlush hps running off a digital ballast to flower my plants after vegging them with cfls. One of my mates has been telling me that these particular globes are rubbish and my results would be much better with a son t agro bulb. I dont think this is correct. I am quite happy with the results from the growlush but don't have any experience with any other globe type. Could he be right? Does anyone else use growlush globes? Has anyone had experience with both brands of globe? As I said I am happy with the growlush but some experienced opinions would be appreciated. Cheers 2J p.s Just thought of another one, does anyone else use a/c for their prim…

Im wanna put my mums and clones in the same room as flowering plants, ive knocked up a frame and got black plastic up as a divider. The flower room is sealed with co2 setup on the way.. im not sure which way to go for ventilation in the muth/clone side.. im not keen on turning the walls into swiss cheese anymore then i have to. I was thinking passive intake vents in the floor and an exhaust fan mounted thru the door.. Or have the mother clone side share same air as flower side using passive vents? (would there be enough air exchange using pass vents?) In this case im sure ive read of vents that let air thru but not light.. I can even leave the door ajar in muth/clone …

Hi, everybody ive just setup my first and new grow tent (1.2x1.2x2) with a 1000w in a ducted cool tube and 3 big squirrel fans (one for intake and outake and one blowing through cooltube). I left everything on for nearly 2 hours for a test and the temps went from 32c to hovering between 36c-38c Unfortunately people would see if i was to stick the ducts out windows and i cant put it through the roof because im renting. I know the obvious solution is to buy a portable Air conditioner but im broke so for now the hot air will just have to circulate around the room. So my question is will my *cough* tomatoes grow good in these temps and should i germ my seeds (from a bree…

I just got delivery of my Lumatek 250W ballast. It came from the USA. It's dual voltage so that's not a problem It has a power lead with it, which I will have to change to suit Aussie powerpoints. My problem is that it has a short fly lead with a strange looking plug on the end that obviously connects to the globe. Where can I get the lead that connects this short lead to the lampholder? Should my hydro shop that sells other lumatek ballasts stock this lead with the right connector? Or will I have to cut that off too and change to some other plug to work with Aussie cables and Lampholders? Here is a pic of the plug ..... HELP ! Currently in the dog ho…

I notice a few people growing under CFL's. Can you grow successfully under these? And more importantly what is the quality of buds? I have had seedlings a few days old under CFL's but that is all. If CFL's do the job why am I using 'juice guzzling' 600W HPS lights? I would love to be using lights that use low volumes of power; especially the way prices are heading here. So, if anyone has had pretty good results from CFL's I'd be interested to know some details. Thanks.

Hello all, I've build a grow cabinet in my bedroom with an old wardrobe i got for free. I'm exceedingly pleased with what i've constructed so far, but damn is the fan noisy! I've got a 240v fan from a local hydro shop, and it's no drama when people are moving around and the TV is on in the house, but when i go to sleep it's pretty loud. I was wondering if there is anything you can get off the shelf to reduce the current to the fan to slow it down a bit. Heat isn't an issue at the moment but i'd like to keep the fresh air circulating. Thoughts?

I just got a free fridge/freezer and plan on making it very similar to the "refriginator". My only problems are: Where should I keep all the wiring/chords? Is it safer for it to be below the grow or above it. (heat rises). The guy who built the refriginator" put them in the freezer department and made a heat sink? Wtf is that? The temperature right now it is around 25 degrees outside and am starting to wonder how im going to control the temp inside the fridge? I don't want to use the fridge/freezer to keep it cool, i don't trust it. I plan on keeping it in the garage for now. How big should my intake and exhaust fans be? I bought a 4in fan for my intake but i thin…

Hey to all I have average power bill of $1000 per 3 months. My other half is in continual stress mode about it being high, especially when she goes to aust post to pay it and the knob behind the counter feels compel to comment on how high it is. Alot of it is air con as I live SE queensland- hot- humid- tropical. I have just read this: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-repli...cfm/535127.html it is the post from WebbieGareth that concerns me. He says the cops use the electric bill as a way to find hidden crops. I would have thought this was a violation of civil liberties but what do I know, it migtht just be wishful thinking. Besides, i'm pretty sure i have seen …
