It's every stoner’s dream – a marijuana vending machine, preferably placed right next to another one dispensing crisps and chocolate bars. http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2012/05/03/article-1336067393303-12E5315A000005DC-523277_636x450.jpg Machines will be housed in cages, and can only be accessed via a valid registration card and finger-print identification. (Picture: Splashnews) But this ‘Autospense’ machine lets registered users of the drug pick up their prescriptions, 24 hours a day. Sixteen US states – as well as Washington DC – allow patients with certain medical conditions to buy small quantities of cannabis. Hundreds of dispensaries have popped up across th…

http://static.stuff.co.nz/1335933429/178/6847178.jpg Reuters BAN THE BAN: Protesters march against a ban on selling cannabis to foreigners, in front of the town hall in Maastricht. Tourists puffed on spliffs in the streets of southern Dutch cities and defiant coffee-shops sold joints to visitors in protest against a ban on selling cannabis to foreigners which took effect overnight. In Maastricht, a short drive from both the German and the Belgian borders, protesters waved banners decorated with marijuana leaves and slogans such as "Dealers Wanted" and "Stop discrimination for Belgium". In the main square, a few hundred demonstrators staged a sit-in and about 50 op…

http://www.bbc.co.uk...gazine-17896081 Police say cannabis growers are moving away from commercial and industrial sites towards ordinary houses. But how can you spot a cannabis farm in your street? Cannabis growing in the suburbs is soaring, with about 21 farms or factories being discovered every day, a new report by the Association of Chief Police Officers says. The problem has persisted for a while, with insurer Aviva reporting a 30% year-on-year increase in cannabis damage claims last year as criminals turned to rented houses to cultivate plants. Now the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) says most of the cannabis consumed in Britain is homegrown and is ur…

A controversial law that will make it harder for foreign tourists to buy cannabis at the Netherlands' famous coffee shops has been upheld by a Dutch court. The law, which reverses 40 years of liberal drugs policy in the Netherlands, is targeted at the many foreigners who have come to see the country as a soft drugs paradise and to tackle a rise in crime related to the drug trade. ... Fourteen coffee shop owners and several pressure groups challenged the law in the courts, saying they should not be asked to discriminate between locals and non-locals. A lawyer for the coffee shop owners said they would appeal. ... Full Story Date: April 27, 2012 23:27:16 Source: http://ww…

A man put cannabis in a washing machine in an attempt to extract THC during the spin cycle, a court has been told. Kevin Michael Penrose, 29, of Hokitika was sentenced to 120 hours of community work after he admitted charges of cultivating cannabis, possessing cannabis and possessing cannabis utensils when he appeared in Greymouth District Court on Tuesday. Police who searched Penrose's house on March 17 found several buckets of green residue from his washing machine. Penrose said that he had been told it was possible to extract THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, from the water once it had settled. Lawyer Eymard Bradley said Penrose had embarked on an "unfortunate ex…

I originally thought it might have a chance of succeeding in the border towns, but even Maastricht has come out to oppose the legislation. Dutch marijuana advocates face off with Cabinet AMSTERDAM — Dutch coffee shop owners went to court Wednesday in a last ditch bid to block a government plan to stop foreigners from buying marijuana in the Netherlands. Lawyers representing the coffee shops oppose what would be the most significant change in decades to the country's famed soft drug tolerance: turning marijuana cafes into "members only" clubs open solely to Dutch residents. Members would only be able to get into the coffee shops by registering for a "weed pass" and…

A number of California winemakers are secretly producing wines laced with cannabis, with Cabernet Sauvignon the grape variety of choice for the blend. http://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Marijuana1-350x350.jpg “Pot wine is increasingly fashionable in wine country – much of the marijuana used for the wine comes from California’s weed capital Humboldt County,” Crane Carter, president of the Napa Valley Marijuana Growers said. “Cabernet Sauvignon from the Stag’s Leap district is thought to pair particularly well with pot,” Carter added. According to Carter, pot wine delivers a quicker high than pot brownies, and the combination of alcoho…

A major phase of the Netherlands' ban on tourists patronizing coffee shops goes into effect in the country's southern provinces on May 1. Shops in Amsterdam are scheduled stop selling marijuana to foreigners on January 1, 2013. But enacting this ban may be harder than finding a 22-year-old who hasn't seen EuroTrip: the benign, psychotropic plant that grows naturally in the ground makes the country a lot of money. According to the director of the Drugtext Foundation in the Netherlands, 50% of the country's tourists visit the coffee shops, and 10% of tourism is exclusively for marijuana. The Telegraph reports that the coffee shops generate around $2.5 billion annually, whic…
