Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Christopher Pyne yesterday called for cannabis use and possession to be recriminalised. Cannabis possession is criminal in all states but with varying leniency. In Victoria, the maximum penalty for cannabis use or possession is a $500 fine. First or second-time offenders with up to 50g may be cautioned. Mr Pyne said it was time to make cannabis possession criminal no matter how small the amount. CHRISANTHI GIOTIS Tuesday, 17 January 2006 While drugs may have played a role in many of Andy Warhol's 1960s artworks, it's not often art galleries hold an exhibition dealing with the subject of drugs. That's why the Dubbo Regional Gallery (DRG) is pretty excited about the exhibition that opened last weekend and will continue until March 12. Drugs: A Social History was first organised for the Justice and Police Museum, Sydney by the Historic Houses Trust and is now on at the DRG exhibition space at the Dubbo Branch Macquarie Regional Library. The exhibition brings fascinating facts to light - like past medical practices that included prescribing heroin for relief …

By PHILLIP COOREY EXCLUSIVE 20jan06 SOUTH Australia's major political parties have been urged to make the personal use of marijuana a criminal offence as part of their state election agendas. SA federal Liberal MP and Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Christopher Pyne, said it was time to recriminalise personal cannabis use in SA because of links to mental health problems. On-the-spot fines for possessing small amounts of cannabis for personal use have applied in SA since 1988. "It's an illicit drug. The message of decriminalisation is this isn't really a problem," Mr Pyne told The Advertiser yesterday. With the advent of hydroponics, marijuana today was much …

ALBURY man Christopher Robert Jodko has been a cannabis user for more than 30 years, Albury Court was told yesterday. He recently commented to a Community Offender Services employee preparing a report on him that he would smoke the drug “until the day I die”. But Jodko was put on a two-year bond for cultivating cannabis with conditions imposed by magistrate Tony Murray requiring him to attend counselling as directed and submit to urine analysis. Solicitor Tim Hemsley said Jodko did not want to be involved in the drug culture so he was growing three cannabis plants for his own use. Jodko, 47, of Alma St, Albury, had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of cultivat…
