Young men who smoke marijuana are more likely to develop an aggressive form of testicular cancer than those who have never tried the drug, a study has found. British newspapers on Monday reported the US research was the first to find evidence of a link between cannabis and testicular cancer. It found smoking the drug at least once a week, or using it regularly from adolescence, doubled the risk of a fast-growing form of the disease called nonseminoma, which tends to strike men in their 20s and 30s. The study, by scientists at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer …

Hi. Just a heads up (or down depending on ya circumstances) to anyone in the Nimbin/NSW FNC area. The chopper arrived yesterday (mon 2/2), apparantly they did Moondani just south of town, they also did around Tuntable, Avalon at Stoney Chute, and the Area between Lillyfield community heading East to Blue Knob, including Lofts Pinnacle Rd on the border of the Tweed and Kyogle shires. This morning (Tues 3/2) they did finished up at Lillian Rock and appear to be heading toward Barkers Vale as of now(the time of typing.) Flying Grid patterns. I'd say they will spend the rest of the day around barkers Vale and probably head elsewhere, like the Channon/Terania Valley, …

Oh shit. Looks like were following the good 'ol fascist state of U.S. down the track of private prisons, I suppose the useless govt. here can't organise a root in a brothel even with the ludicrous amounts of tax they steal from us so foisting out incarceration services is the next money-saving, responsibility dodging scam from the NSW gov. "The former Unions NSW boss John Robertson will be sworn in as Minister for Corrective Services today at a time when the Government is moving to privatise prisons. Mr Robertson will also be Minister for Public Sector Reform and Special Minister of State. Monaro MP Steve Whan will be Minister for Emergency Services and Small Busi…

The Nortern Star Author: SAFFRON HOWDEN Date: 28th January 2009 Source: The Nortern Star Copyright: APN News & Media Ltd 2008. Pot less popular, but demon drink is worse WHILE Australians increasingly frown on habitual cannabis use, local experts are warning the bigger problem – alcohol – is hiding in plain sight. Public support for legalising cannabis has declined from a 1998 high as the country takes an increasingly dim view of the drug. A new study by the University of NSW’s Drug Policy Modelling Program shows only 10 per cent of Australians now approve of regular cannabis use, compared with one-quarter just four years ago. “The high watermark for su…

THE little girl is not quite two years old, a blue-eyed brunette in pink Winnie-the-Pooh skirt and a ponytail that stands like a palm tree on top of her head. Her brother is just five months old, completely at peace in his timber cot. These are the children at the centre of one of the nation's most disturbing welfare cases. Last September, they were removed from the care of their parents and forced into foster care, despite there being "no evidence whatsoever" that they had ever been abused or neglected. In a judgment delivered on December 19, NSW Supreme Court judge George Palmer described the case as an "abuse of power" and ordered the children be returned to th…

AUSTRALIAN attitudes to cannabis use have hardened dramatically over the past four years, and support for its legalisation has fallen away. But people are increasingly looking to needle and syringe exchange programs and safe injecting rooms, rather than law and order crackdowns, to tackle the wider illegal drug problem, a new study has found. The study, from the University of NSW Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, reviewed a series of survey results over time and reported a large drop in support for regular cannabis use to less than one in 10 Australians last year, compared with one in four in 2004. Advocates of cannabis law reform also lost ground, with more than …

A MAGISTRATE has encouraged a regular marijuana user to attempt to get his drug usage legalised, because it was the only substance that numbed his pain after his whole body was badly burned. Jason Bernard Young, 31, from Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates' Court yesterday on two drug possession charges after he was found with 2g of marijuana at his home in December. Young was intoxicated when he fell off a train bridge in 1995 and sustained burns to 95 per cent of his body after he grabbed hold of the electrical wiring above the Bald Hills train station. The court was told Young had tried numerous drugs and pain killers but …
