Anyone see the horrors of marijuana on Today Tonight this evening? (24th. Nov). Apparently this woman's son killed himself because he smoked all this pot for a few weeks, while on holiday. He returned home, to Tasmania and did himself in. Says a lot more about the situation of living in Tasmania for youth than it does about grass I reckon. But what was amazing was the pictures they showed of this kid on holiday were full of images of Jim bean, and Jack Daniels, and booze was barely mentioned. The idiot woman reckons she felt that he son was in a safe environment because he was in the centre of the country at Alice Springs ( I think it was there), and amongst Abori…

Source: http://www.medicalmarihuana.ca/death.html Sunday, November 2, 2003 by James Gordon from The Ottawa Citizen A local Canadian activist has died. Don Appleby was legally allowed to smoke marijuana to help with his AIDS. He apparently blew himself up while attempting to extract THC with butane. Don Appleby died of his injuries suffered in an Oct. 12 explosion while he was trying to make a concentrated oil using marijuana and butane. Don Appleby's fight against the aids virus that was sapping him was made more difficult by a tragic paradox. While the Ottawa man was one of the few Canadians who could legally smoke marijuana for medicinal purposes, he could rarel…

Granger allowed to appeal drug conviction By SEAN FEWSTER 21nov03 FORMER football strongman Dave "Grave Danger" Granger has been given permission to appeal against his drug conviction – and will challenge the validity of state law. Granger and his lawyers will ask the Court of Criminal Appeal to find South Australia's decades-old drug laws "contravene the Australian Constitution" and are unfair to anyone found with large quantities of cannabis. The Court of Criminal Appeal yesterday granted Granger leave to appeal against his jail term of four years and three months. Earlier this month, Granger, 48, was given a two-year non-parole period for growing 17kg of cannab…

While hunting through the net the other nite I came across an Abstract from the Australian Journal of Plant Physiology. Cannabis sativa were assessed for their usefulness to trace seized Cannabis leaves to the country of origin and to source crops by determing how isotopes signatures relate to plant growth conditions. The CSIRO wanted $18.00 for the full text. No way was I going to pay them so I contacted one of the authors and kindly ask for a copy, which she sent without haste. I refuse to go into detail on this but will send a copy to Ozstoners. One part really opened my eyes and I quote.

In the quiet countryside just outside Vancouver, B.C. an ambitious young entrepreneur surveys a blindingly bright room filled with lovely plants--dozens of stalks of high-power marijuana. Almost ready for harvest, they hold threadlike, resin-frosted pot flowers, rust-and-white "buds" thickening in a base of green-and-purple leaves. The room reeks of citrus and menthol, a drug-rich musk lingering on fingertips and clothes. "There's no way I won't make a million dollars," says the entrepreneur, David (one-name sources throughout this story are pseudonymous). He runs several other sites like this one, reaping upwards of $80,000 in a ten-week cycle. Says he: "Even if they …

"The people coming to this clinic will be seeking treatment for s…

Britain's most senior coroner is warning that hundreds of young people are dying in accidents caused by their prolonged use of cannabis. Hamish Turner, the president of the Coroners' Society, said that the drug, which is often portrayed as harmless, has increasingly been behind deaths that have been recorded as accidents or suicides. In the past year, he estimated that cannabis was a significant contributory factor in about 10 per cent of the 100 cases that he had dealt with in south Devon, where he works. Conversations with his colleagues led him to believe that the scale of the problem elsewhere in the country was equally bad. "Cannabis is as dangerous as any oth…

Paracetamol overdoses need study http://ninemsn.com.au/ Paracetamol poisoning is common in Australasia and not enough is being done to minimise its effects, a new study has found. The survey of emergency departments in Australia and New Zealand found varied responses to cases of Paracetamol overdose, which can cause permanent liver damage or death. The study by two New Zealand doctors was published in the latest issue of the journal of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. The director of emergency medicine at Austin Health in Victoria, Associate Professor George Braitberg, said the results of the study were worrying. "Paracetamol toxicity is a well-r…

GOOSE CREEK--As police struggled to calm a growing firestorm over their drug raid at Stratford High School, state investigators Friday began probing why officers charged into a crowded hallway with guns drawn while students cowered in fear. After watching a surveillance videotape of the Wednesday raid, Solicitor Ralph Hoisington asked the State Law Enforcement Division to look into possible police misconduct in the operation. He called for the probe after consulting with Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt. "I don't think there's anything wrong at all with law enforcement addressing a problem in a high school, but I have serious concerns about the need for restrainin…

FIVE children have been suspended from a Queensland primary school for smoking marijuana The incident has stunned Premier Peter Beattie and sparked a police investigation into how they acquired the drugs. Detectives attached to the Logan juvenile aid bureau will interview the children and their parents. Schizophrenia by cannabis new myth. by our reporter Koen van Eijk. Castricum - During the 1930´s, you would ´become homophilia´ from cocaine use. In the 1970´s, schizophrenia was caused by failing parenting by the mother. It all turned out to be a hoax. Again, a new medical myth appears to be born: Now you become schozophrenic from hash and weed. Psychiatrist Daniel van Dijk was surprised when he heard the news last week: The use of hash and weed, cannabis, would be the cause of 200 more schzophrenia patients in the Netherlands each year. The media reported this on basis of a Trimbos-Institute research. According to Trimbos, even people without genetical indication…

ALMOST half of the 100 soldiers drug-tested after a raid on Darwin's Robertson Barracks in October tested positive for "party drugs" such as cannabis and amphetamines, army chief Peter Leahy told a parliamentary committee last night. Lieutenant-General Leahy told the defence estimates committee hearing in Canberra he was concerned that an organised drug ring could have been operating out of the barracks, which houses 3000 personnel, before the extensive raids by civilian and military police. The results of the drug tests were "disappointing" because drug abusers were putting the lives of their colleagues at risk. "We're getting people in the defence force saying t…
