More than half of all British adults believe sale and possession of cannabis should be decriminalised or even legalised, according to a new survey. A YouGov poll for The Daily Telegraph found 28 per cent favoured decriminalising the drug, making it a minor offence, such as parking in the wrong place, while 23 per cent wanted full legalisation. Again, more than half (52 per cent) applauded Home Secretary David Blunkett's move to downgrade cannabis from a Class B drug to Class C. Only 43 per cent believed selling or possessing the drug should remain a criminal offence. The survey found, though, that 44 per cent regard cannabis as "seriously addictive" - but 75 per c…

More than 100 cannabis plants and 470 grams of processed cannabis with a street value of nearly $250,000 was found during a weekend police raid on a storage shed at Nimbin in northern New South Wales. Police say a complex hydroponics set-up was also found during the raid on the Nimbin Industrial Estate. In another operation, a 46-year-old woman is due to face several drug charges when she appears in court next month after a Christmas Eve raid on a house in East Lismore. Plants with a street value of $86,000, more than two kilograms of cannabis leaf and a large quantity of hydroponic equipment was seized. The woman is due to appear in Lismore Local Court of January…

N a pre-planned operation, Murray Bridge police and CIB officers raided a cannabis crop worth more than one million dollars, 20 kilometres south-east of Yumali yesterday afternoon. No-one was arrested, but numerous forensic samples were taken from the scene. The crop was located in heritage scrub, a section of land farmers are not allowed to clear. Murray Bridge CIB Detective Senior Constable Darren Niblett said the crop was "reasonably large" for the area, with more than 500 plants. "It was quite difficult to spot, and unless you were doing a grid search of the area in a helicopter, you would have missed it," Detective Senior Constable Niblett said. "It was a similar siz…

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1484526/2...?headlines=true Art Garfunkel can add one more herb to the pungent foursome "parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme" that he and partner Paul Simon sang about in the '60s. The 62-year-old singer, one half of folk duo Simon and Garfunkel, was busted for pot, according to a New York State Police spokesperson. Garfunkel was riding alone in a limousine when a state trooper pulled the vehicle over for speeding at 12:20 p.m. on Saturday in Hurley, New York, 55 miles southwest of Albany. The officer claimed he smelled marijuana inside the car, and while searching the vehicle, the driver and Garfunkel, found a small amount of pot in th…

My Dad began the new year by commenting on my plants and handing me a clipping from The Advertiser Friday, Juanuary 9, 2004 (p21) - yes, full page. I don't live with my parents, I'm well, well over 18. I don't read this newspaper because I don't trust it (and I think newspapers use a lot of paper). Can anyone comment on the article or on the ownership structures of these papers. Are they reputable ? Here is The Advertiser. I couldn't work out how to find the article text, entitled "Dancing with the deadly weed". My father believes everything he reads in the paper and this is a one paper town (or country, perhaps). I'd like to know if he's being fed bullshit. Thank…

There was a story on Today this morning about this article in The Bulletin. So I thought I'd dig it up to see what it said.... http://bulletin.ninemsn.com.au/bulletin/Ed...A256E1B00040E1C STONED WARRIORS Darwin's Robertson Barracks is home to some of Australia's finest frontline troops – it's also home to a festering drug culture with dangerous links to organised crime, Paul Toohey reports. A removalist sent to collect the belongings of a rifleman making an unscheduled exit from army life at Darwin's Robertson Barracks was stunned by just how little the soldier owned. "He had bugger-all," said the removalist. "After six years in the army, he had nothing to show …

(BTW, I'm aware that most of you are aussie, I was asked to post on here by one of your compatriots, and the UK could use your help) The following story was posted on the BBC web site (and presumably regional tv). The story contains the implication that 'cannabis addiction' led a man to shoot his neighbour in a dispute. Although the story acknowledges that the police found the man in a drunken coma, this is seen as a mark on his character and not the primary driver of the incident. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/...ire/3399805.stm This is a lie. We cannot and will not allow *our* public broadcaster to promote ignorance about cannabis. If you're serious about w…

Jan. 12, 2004. 06:48 AM Pot bust biggest ever Marijuana grown in former brewery Operation had dorm for workers ROBERTA AVERY SPECIAL TO THE STAR BARRIE—Terry MacIsaac has driven past the former Molson's brewery nearly every day since it closed more than three years ago putting him out of work after 26 years on the job. But he never imagined that a huge crop of marijuana was being grown in the abandoned beer vats. He rarely glanced at the windowless, gray industrial building surrounded by two chain-link fences, topped with barbed wire and never gave a second thought to the comings and goings of delivery trucks. "Like everyone else, I'm absolutely astounded," …

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/01/...3151208185.html By Trish Bolton January 5, 2004 People who smoke pot don't belong to a subculture, they're part of the mainstream. Australians don't really need an excuse to have a drink but it's that time of year where you can really drink up, indulge as much as you want; get drunk, smashed, blotto - no one will really mind. You can start drinking at the lunchtime barbie or picnic, down at the beach or while you're watching the cricket; you can do it in front of your parents and kids and with neighbours and friends. But if you want to roll one, have a choof or take a toke, you won't find the same warm reception at home…

Well things have been progressing extremely slowly. First I'll reintenerate what's been said: The Cup's on the 8th November. Enteries must be in by the end of October. It's open anyone pro-canna. 18 years old. No grog. $40 ticket (to pay for food, fizz drink). Else? Oh it was to be in Redfern but has been moved maybe to Marickville. The mull is put on, but you might find it hard to buy any. The problems are: We don't have a p.o. box to send the entries too. If you want to place an entery send me a priv-msg and I'll pass it on. How can we stop the fun-police for fucking it over (my major worry)? Last year I beleive it was mostly word of mouth, much better. So send me a …

Police found a man with 51 cannabis "joints" strapped to his leg when they searched him at a regional airport, Darwin Magistrates Court heard yesterday. Richard James Bell, 28, was a heavy cannabis smoker and it was for his own use, his lawyer said. Magistrate Dick Wallace said he noted a charge of supplying cannabis had been withdrawn. "I can accept that the cannabis was for personal use if I shut one eye," he said. While the facts did not say that Bell supplied anyone, the cannabis was in a form ready to be supplied. Bell, of Malak, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis in a public place at Nguiu on Bathurst Island on February 21 last year. Prosecutor S…

At approximately midnight tonight the Canadian Supreme Court will rule on the constitutionality of cannabis prohibition. Cannabis could be legal in Canada tomorrow, and we stand a very good chance of a favourable finding due to Health Canada's incompetence at handling medicinal cannabis and violating the Charter of Rights: Newshawk: CMAP ( http://www.mapinc.org/cmap ) Pubdate: Mon, 22 Dec 2003 Source: National Post (Canada) Webpage: http://www.canada.com/national/nationalpos...b9-bd8704f956c3 Copyright: 2003 Southam Inc.
