Of course, it won't work. The war against drugs, which most Western societies appear addicted to, is simply a scandalous waste of money, resources and lives. Politicians fulminate about the evils of drugs such as ice and heroin, and judges and magistr…

A man who grew 15 cannabis plants through a hydroponic operation at his home in Canberra has escaped conviction by an ACT Supreme Court. Police discovered the plants when they raided Guy Terance Hawksley's home in Turner in October 2003. Today the court heard he used the drug to treat pain from a back injury sustained when he was training to become an elite rower. Hawksley provided results from a test for cannabis to show he was now clean. Justice Terry Connolly said the man had turned his life around and was now finding alternative ways to treat the pain. He did not convict Hawksley but placed him on a 12-month good behaviour bond. Author:ABC Date:Wednesday, …

Do “Skunk” Stats Stink? Trevor Butterworth, March 27, 2007 British newspapers clash over drug war: is super-cannabis turning users schizo? Britain is in the middle of a newspaper war about whether some newspapers went too far in advocating liberalization of the nation’s drug laws. On Monday, the Daily Telegraph ran a front-page headline “Skunk killed my beloved son,” wherein a mother recounted the suicide of her teenage son, after a descent into “cannabis induced psychosis.” “I was stunned to learn that cannabis could be so harmful - it bore no resemblance to the drug I had puffed once or twice at university. And although it has been around for years, I had never he…

Whole house a dope factory 21Mar07 POLICE last night raided a sophisticated hydroponic marijuana crop at Helensvale with a potential street value of up to $3 million. Hemp ice cream anyone? Dr Keith Bolton sees the production of industrial hemp as a potential boon for Australian farmers wanting to get out of the cotton or sugar cane industry. http://www.echonews.com/pictures/13_11/sm_fp_100_1559.JPGHe said hemp can be commercially viable on land lots as small as five hectares if the plant is used not only for its fibre, but also as a food source. He said hemp seed contains no THC at all (the component in cannabis which creates “a high”) and can be used to make hemp milk, hemp tofu and hemp ice cream. The plant also has a high yield, with two tonnes of seed produced per hectare. “Humans have been eating hemp for at least 8000 years o…

(except for alcohol which we sometimes consume on air. The kiddies can see that if they want to. It's okay, it's different!)" David Koch went in to bat for the prohibitionists yesterday (Monday) on 7's Sunrise when he applauded the results of this new study which shows that pot is now "uncool" amongst Australia's youth and that the government funded "education program" in schools is working. I recorded their interview with Paul Dillon of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre. Just…
