The sad news has been confirmed. Jack Herer, author of Emperor Wears No Clothes and renowned around the world for hemp activism, has died at 11:17 a.m. today, in Eugene, Oregon. Jack Herer suffered a heart attack last September just after speaking on stage at the Portland HempStalk festival. The last seven months have proven to be a huge challenge to the man, with several health issues making his recovery complicated. Jack Herer's health has been poor lately, this last week there have been reports of the severity, and an outpouring of prayers on his behalf. After wrenching cuts to Washington’s state drug and alcohol treatment programs, Dickerson, a Democratic representative, introduced a bill this year to sell marijuana in state liquor stores…

This was commissioned by the Keating government in 1994 (since rescinded) and represents, I believe, the last attempt by an Australian government to get all the facts around the dangers and impacts of cannabis use. It's an important document for that reason. It's also pretty encouraging in its assessment of cannabis use and makes the following points, among others. Note that these are accurate findings at the time of the report, in 1994, and are to be understood in that context. That said, as the last survey of its kind, this document still represents the mo…

"ARGUABLY the tallest cannabis plants found in suburban Queensland were seized in a Chermside backyard. About 50 of the huge plants were found on Monday, some up to 4.5m tall. To the surprise of police who raided the property, no attempts had been made to conceal the drugs from neighbours or pedestrians peering down the side of the house. "I've never seen a crop this size and this quality in suburban Queensland," former Drugs Squad officer Det Insp Graham Clark said from the scene. "We estimate at this stage there's a quarter to half-a-million dollars (of cannabis). They're very well attended plants." Police swooped on the Mylne St home in the morning and took a…

Peter Fitzsimmons, noted author, after dinner speaker, sports commentator and former Wallaby wrote this in his column: Halt this Pointless War (note the final sentence in the article below) ANOTHER week, another massive drug bust. This one was on Thursday in Hinchinbrook, where the police found a drug laboratory said to be capable of producing $10million worth of ecstasy. Sigh. All power to the courageous men and women of the NSW Police Force who do this stuff but, truly, hands up who thinks all this effort will make a blind bit of difference in the long run, any more than it ever has? Hands up who thinks there is any way around the laws of supply and demand, whi…
