Two Canadian researchers hope their work - mapping the cannabis sativa genome - will get rid of the stigma they say surrounds the cultivation of hemp and marijuana in Canada. The University of Saskatchewan's Jon Page and the University of Toronto's Tim Hughes hope other scientists will use their work to develop marijuana as a legitimate medical ingredient, and hemp as a high-quality, fastgrowing crop. "It's a useful plant," Page told Postmedia News on the phone from Saskatoon. "You can eat it, you can build with it, you can use it as medicine ... but, because of its reputation, it's hard to get funding to work with it." Using genome sequencing technology, Page and…

ACT police will begin roadside drug testing across Canberra from today. Legislation giving police powers to conduct random roadside tests for drugs came into effect in December. Police will now detain drivers to take saliva swabs to test for drugs like cannabis, methamphetamine and ecstasy. "The test is administered through a saliva test and it does take longer than drink driving test. Drivers can expect to be detained on the roadside for up to ten minutes and that's because the technology is not as advanced as technology for random breath testing for alcohol," said Attorney General Simon Corbell. Unlike alcohol testing, there is no legal level or limit on drug co…

Coroner: Lamar Jack ingested chemical found in fake marijuana before he died Condensed from original by: Nikie Mayo Posted October 15, 2011 Anderson University basketball player Lamar Jack died after ingesting a chemical that is a key ingredient in synthetic marijuana, the county corner said Saturday. The lab testing and analysis revealed that Jack had the chemical JWH-018 in his body when he collapsed during a preseason warm-up with his team on Sept. 30. Just days later, on Oct. 4, Jack died. He was 19. On the basis of an autopsy and the toxicology test results, Coroner Greg Shore is ruling Jack’s death accidental — caused by “acute drug toxicity with exci…

Two women, 71, and a man, 82, complained of illness after filling up on brownies containing marijuana. According to police, the mourners had no idea they were biting off more than they could chew when the brownies were served up, the Guardian website reports. The ill residents, from California's Huntington Beach, only knew they were in strife when they co…

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/oct/07/netherlands-potency-cannabis-hard-drug?CMP=twt_gu Associated Press guardian.co.uk, Friday 7 October 2011 18.43 BST The Dutch government has said it will move to classify high-potency cannabis alongside hard drugs such as cocaine and ecstasy, the latest step in the country's ongoing reversal of its liberal policies. The decision means most of the cannabis now sold in Dutch coffee shops would have to be replaced by milder variants. But sceptics said the move would be difficult to enforce, and that it could simply lead many users to smoke more of the less potent weed. Possession of cannabis is technically illegal in th…

Cannabis-related crime exposé: Murdochritude Now it seems that merely wearing a tee shirt with a cannabis leaf on it has driven a man to insane criminal acts, because the burgers are better when you don't have to pay for them. My Mother warned me that wearing tee-shirts was a slippery slope to chewing gum, learning the guitar and choking to death on your own vomit.

good or bad? depends what side of the fence u are on eg buy or sell. the cannabis laws have been in for nearly a month. normally the max price for an ounce in WA is 350, the other day talking to a mate 380 he paid this was because of the new laws its not going to stop any one they just put there price up because of the risk involved. wait another month or two and another price hike will be indroduce thanks to the state government attacking the states energy suppliers in whom have no problem passing it onto us like i said b4 it either good or bad depends what side u are on lets hope your on the right one stay hi saleonnow

Interesting read I thought I would pass on, as both a proud Canadian and bear lover! Two different articles, there's tonnes more out there if you'd like to read more about the incident http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.c6b7a7c8f2c3660aa232f7c0fc600cd8.1051 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1384843/Canadian-black-bears-guarding-marijuana-plants-British-Columbia.html with my experience with bears back home I'm surprised the officers approached, regardless of the mannerisms they were showing! You see a bear back home, you run. perfect guards, regardless of docility just for fun, this is a picture of the first bear I ever 'met'
