WHAT do you do with a haul of more than 33,000 cannabis plants worth in excess of $82 million? If there is a total fire ban you truck it to a nearby sugar mill and burn it. The $82 million stash - uncovered two weeks ago at a Mt Pelion property - was Queensland's biggest cannabis haul of 2011 and these pictures show it being disposed of at Farleigh mill. Police from a Brisbane drug squad, dressed in camouflage, and Farleigh mill workers can be seen getting the crop ready for the mill's furnace. The cannabis plants were trucked to the mill on Friday, October 7, the same afternoon police announced they had seized the plants over a three-day period. While the evide…

MORE than 100kg of cannabis dumped in a creek near Warrnambool was past its best before date, according to police. The 71 packages discovered in Mount Emu Creek were found over two days from October 26 after packages were first discovered by a local farmer. In an initial search of the creek police found 51 bags of the drug, before an anonymous tip a day later lead them to 18 more packages dumped nearby. Valued at over $700,000, had it still been in a viable condition, the major haul would put the health of anyone attempting to use it in jeopardy and was no longer saleable. It is believed to have been dumped between October 23 and October 26 by a person driving ac…

Cortlan Bennett From: AAP November 30, 2011 2:19PM Source: PerthNow http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/get-tough-laws-benefit-crime/story...1226210475068 "TOUGH new cannabis and proposed prostitution laws are driving people towards harder drugs and organised crime, Western Australia's opposition says. Under former WA Labor government laws, possession of two outdoor plants or up to 30g of cannabis resulted in a $150 spot fine and no criminal charge. The current Liberal-National government tightened the laws in July, punishing possession of 10g or more of cannabis with up to two years' jail or a $2000 fine."

Someone out there is finally getting it. In order to combat the increasing illegal sales of cannabis in Switzerland, four of the seven French-speaking Swiss cantons (similar to states in the U.S.) will be allowing individuals to grow four cannabis plants at their home, starting in January 2012. The cannabis is only authorized for personal use and cannot be sold. The cantons involved are Geneva, Neuchatel, Vaud (Lausanne) and Fribourg, according to this article . People can apply for permits to grow more than four plants. We here at The 420 Times fully expect this new law to reduce crime and police expenses in Switzerland, and everywhere else this kind of progressive…

Yeah, marijuana legalization sounds like such a great idea…until a bucket of soapy water, or even an entire human body, comes crashing down on top of you and turns your peaceful life into a nightmare. Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department’s Robert McMahon is charged with enforcing the law on marijuana use. But he is very concerned about the many hidden ramifications of decriminalizing cannabis, making it legal for anyone to grow and smoke hemp. He’s afraid of what the second largest city and most populous state in the country would look like in 20 years if weed is made legal. "I think that anytime that an intoxicant is made legal there are social costs associ…

The city council of Copenhagen voted 39-9 Thursday night to set up a committee to explore how best to legalize and regulate the sale of marijuana in the Danish capital. The move is supported by Mayor Frank Jensen. After the committee makes its recommendations, the issue will go to the Danish parliament, where similar efforts have been blocked in the past, but some Danish politicians are saying this time could be different. The council vote paved the way for the council's Social Affairs Committee to draft regulations making Copenhagen the first city in Europe to legalize marijuana sales. Holland's famous cannabis cafes operate in violation of Dutch law, but are allowed…

In a speech at a meeting held by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Drug Policy Reform on Thursday, Baroness Manningham-Buller said the "war on drugs" has proven "fruitless" and that drug policy should no longer be a "taboo subject." "Given its effects on us all and the enormous cost of our efforts to limit the problems which drugs cause, I find it extraordinary that it is not at the forefront of national debate. "Instead there is a presumption that the current policy is the best we can do. And there is knee-jerk opposition to any change." Baroness Manningham-Buller also said at the meeting that Britain should follow countries like the Czech Republic and Portugal,…

SAO PAULO: The Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos, has called for the global legalisation of marijuana to help combat the trafficking of harder drugs and related violence. Mr Santos added his voice to a growing list of influential figures in Latin America demanding a rethink of the policies that have been used for decades to fight the drug trade. He said legalising softer drugs such as marijuana worldwide could help to improve international efforts to deal with harder drugs such as cocaine and heroin. ''The world needs to discuss new approaches … we are basically still thinking within the same framework as we have done for the last 40 years,'' he said. Aske…

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-11-14/higher-iq-linked-to-illegal-drug-use-in-adulthood-study-finds.html "Nov. 15 (Bloomberg) -- A high childhood IQ may be linked to illegal drug use in adolescence and adulthood, according to research published today in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Researchers at Cardiff University and University College London based their findings on data from about 8,000 people included in the 1970 British Cohort Study, which has tracked 16,571 babies born in April 1970. Across most illegal drugs, men and women at age 16 and 30 who reported using drugs had a significantly higher IQ score at age 10 than those who…
