The NSW Greens have called for the legalisation of medical cannabis, while NSW Police have raided the only producer of a cannabis-derived health product in Australia. Greens MLC David Shoebridge made the call at a recent rally in Martin Place. “If a doctor believes that the prescription of cannabis is the best, sometimes even the only, way of dealing with your chronic pain, why do we prohibit that and make it unlawful here in NSW?” Greens MLC John Kaye told the Star Observer he would move a motion during Parliament’s spring sitting which would outline a plan for a one-year medical marijuana trial under which GPs and treating specialists would be able to prescribe medical …

It's every stoner’s dream – a marijuana vending machine, preferably placed right next to another one dispensing crisps and chocolate bars. http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2012/05/03/article-1336067393303-12E5315A000005DC-523277_636x450.jpg Machines will be housed in cages, and can only be accessed via a valid registration card and finger-print identification. (Picture: Splashnews) But this ‘Autospense’ machine lets registered users of the drug pick up their prescriptions, 24 hours a day. Sixteen US states – as well as Washington DC – allow patients with certain medical conditions to buy small quantities of cannabis. Hundreds of dispensaries have popped up across th…

All Rights Reserved A fascinating new book is out entitled Home Grown: Marijuana and the Origins of Mexico’s War on Drugs by Isaac Campos. In it, he traces the history of cannabis in Mexico as the Spanish Conquistadors brought the useful fiber crop to the New World in the 16th century. East Bay Express reviews the book and touches on a subject I’ve written about – the word “marijuana”: But let’s start with the word “marijuana.” Marijuana came to the New World as…

http://www.bbc.co.uk...gazine-17896081 Police say cannabis growers are moving away from commercial and industrial sites towards ordinary houses. But how can you spot a cannabis farm in your street? Cannabis growing in the suburbs is soaring, with about 21 farms or factories being discovered every day, a new report by the Association of Chief Police Officers says. The problem has persisted for a while, with insurer Aviva reporting a 30% year-on-year increase in cannabis damage claims last year as criminals turned to rented houses to cultivate plants. Now the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) says most of the cannabis consumed in Britain is homegrown and is ur…

A man put cannabis in a washing machine in an attempt to extract THC during the spin cycle, a court has been told. Kevin Michael Penrose, 29, of Hokitika was sentenced to 120 hours of community work after he admitted charges of cultivating cannabis, possessing cannabis and possessing cannabis utensils when he appeared in Greymouth District Court on Tuesday. Police who searched Penrose's house on March 17 found several buckets of green residue from his washing machine. Penrose said that he had been told it was possible to extract THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, from the water once it had settled. Lawyer Eymard Bradley said Penrose had embarked on an "unfortunate ex…

A landowner didn't notice cannabis plants growing on his north-western NSW property for at least six months. Officers from Castlereagh Local Area Command visited the rural property of 25,000 hectares at Lightning Ridge shortly after 11am (AEST) on Thursday. When they arrived, the owner told police he had found a marijuana crop on an isolated section of his land. "It's a very vast expanse of land and it's heavily watered with pine trees and the crop was in amongst the pine trees," Detective inspector Scott Russell told AAP. "It was a well set-up, elaborate system. "It's been there for some time, possibly up to six months. Police seized and destroyed a total 136 plants, wit…
