A MAN who grew one of Australia's largest cannabis crops so he could fund a nationwide anti-abortion protest has told a court he has no regrets. Michael Bennett Gardner Snr, 58, told the Supreme Court in Brisbane today that he wished he had grown at least another 15 acres of the drug before he was caught in mid-2008. He then took the unusual step of urging the judge to jail him for the maximum of 20 years for the charge of trafficking, to which he pleaded guilty, saying his crime was "the top level of offending". However, Justice Roslyn Atkinson, who described the offending as "evil", agreed with the prosecution that Gardner should be sentenced to 13 years' jail. …

May 22, 2012 MORE than half of Australians support reduced legal penalties for use of drugs such as cannabis and ecstasy, an analysis of a federal government survey shows. The findings contrast with the Herald/Nielsen poll released yesterday, which showed that two-thirds of people opposed decriminalisation. But that is explained by the different way the poll questions were structured, said Alison Ritter, who heads a drug policy modelling program at the national drug and alcohol research centre at the University of NSW. She said it reflected the different responses likely when people were asked about specific approaches rather than the broader decriminalisation que…

Cannabis capsules failed to slow the progression of multiple sclerosis in a large British study, dealing a blow to hopes that it could provide long-term benefits. Despite promising signs in earlier, shorter studies, researchers found patients who took capsules containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a key active ingredient in cannabis, fared no better than those given a placebo. The finding is a disappointment for researchers who thought cannabis might provide a viable therapy in the disease's secondary progressive stage, when patients have few treatment options. Multiple sclerosis (MS) patients were assessed in the trial known as CUPID (cannabinoid use in progressive infl…

DEA Can’t Enter 150 Pounds of Pot Into Evidence, Because It Illegally GPS-Tracked This Dude Posted by Easy Rider on May 25, 2012 http://disinfo.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/DEA.jpgGuess the system works at times. Reports the AP Via ABC News: When Kentucky State Troopers stopped 49-year-old Robert Dale Lee on Interstate 75 in September 2011, they knew he would be coming their way and what to look for in his truck. The Drug Enforcement Administration had been following Lee’s truck from Chicago using a GPS — a tracking device placed on the vehicle as part of a multi-state drug probe — and troopers found 150 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle. Now, a federal j…

http://www.dailytele...i-1226284438235 OUTDOOR cannabis cultivation is becoming high-tech as criminals use hydroponic methods to boost yields for the cash crop. Criminals are now growing the crops in smaller numbers and are scattering them across the state's forests to reduce detection, compared to a decade ago when they were grown in the thousands. The new methods are not outsmarting the NSW Drug Squad, who are using local police intelligence and helicopters to locate million of dollars of illegal plants hidden in steep terrain across the state. The cannabis eradication team set out this week to remote locations west and north of Coffs Harbour as part of its annual …
