She…

Medical marijuana patients in Los Angeles can exhale a sigh of relief. At least for now. LA's marijuana dispensary ban, which was set to go into effect in one week, has been temporarily suspended after patients and supporters delivered 50,000 signatures to force a referendum on the ban, the city clerk's office told The Huffington Post Thursday. The ban, which has the approval of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Police Chief Charlie Beck, intends to shut down about 1,000 marijuana dispensaries in the city, including those that have complied with the law. Instead of using dispensaries, groups of three or fewer marijuana patients would be allowed to grow marijuana in their hom…

Mark Metherell, Lisa Davies May 21, 2012 AUSTRALIANS remain firmly against relaxing illicit drug laws despite declarations by a group of eminent Australians and a global commission that the war on drugs has failed. A Herald/Nielsen poll has found two-thirds of Australians oppose decriminalisation. The finding shows little change in attitudes from a similar poll taken 13 years ago. The latest poll finds 27 per cent of voters support decriminalisation, although that figure rises to 50 per cent of Greens and 34 per cent of Labor voters. Support among Liberal and National party voters is much lower, at 18 per cent. Attitudes on the issue appear to be entrenched, wit…

The State Opposition and the Greens have lashed out at the Government's new drug awareness campaign targeting teenage cannabis users. Yesterday, the Government launched the, 'Swap for Pot' message to target 15 to 19 year old cannabis users as a part of the Drug Aware Campaign. The Mental Health Minister Helen Morton encouraged users to "smash their bong". However, the manager of Opposition Business Michelle Roberts doubts the new campaign will decrease the use of drugs. "This campaign is bordering on farcical and trivial. It is too little too late. I don't think it will be effective with young people, I expect most people will make a joke of it," she said. "Probably j…

Doctors told the family it appeared Isaach had been exposed to chemicals and he was having negative reactions. Ms Palmer spent months trying to work out where the chemical exposure was co…
