http://www.420magazine.com/2012/10/brad-pitt-blasts-u-s-war-on-drugs-calls-for-policy-rethink/ Brad Pitt Blasts U.S. ‘War On Drugs’, Calls For Policy Rethink "Brad Pitt has thrown his weight behind a documentary that blasts America’s 40-year war on drugs as a failure, calling policies that imprison huge numbers of drug-users a “charade” in urgent need of a rethink." “I know people are suffering because of it. I know I’ve lived a very privileged life in comparison and I can’t stand for it,” Pitt told Reuters on Friday, calling the government’s War on Drugs policy a “charade.” “It’s such bad strategy. It makes no sense. It perpetuates itself. You make a bust, you d…

A woman has been convicted of giving cannabis to her 3-month old baby through her breast milk, in what is believed to be the first case of its kind in New Zealand. The 29-year-old Wanganui woman was charged with administering a class C controlled drug, namely cannabis, to a person under the age of 18. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced in Wanganui District Court last week to six months' supervision. The charges were laid after a police search of a house for drugs. The woman's partner also faced charges over the drug raid. Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew McDonald said the woman's actions amounted to child abuse. "People often believe drug-related activities are victimless,…

A FATHER-of-nine's plea for a heavier jail sentence to properly recognise his achievement in growing one of Australia's largest cannabis crops has fallen on deaf ears. Michael Bennett Gardner Sr, 58, voiced his outrage in Brisbane's Court of Appeal over the 13-year sentence he was handed for growing 3.5 tonnes of cannabis with an estimated street value of almost $70 million. Gardner was of the opinion that his effort in raising a record-breaking crop should have yielded him a jail term of at least 20-years. Gardner, an anti-abortion campaigner who represented himself in court earlier this weekwearing a T-shirt with the slogan "Abortion is Killing", is among the few Queen…

The answer to the question "did you inhale?" may be yes, even if you're only guilty of breathing the air in Rome. That's because a new study says there are trace amounts of cocaine and marijuana in the air of eight Italian cities. VICTORIA Police has seized marijuana valued at $19 million in an operation involving raids on at least one property each day for almost seven weeks. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in hydroponic equipment was found in houses capable of producing $500,000 worth of marijuana every three months in new outer-suburban estates. Vietnamese crime families are believed to have spent millions of dollars buying many of the 47 houses that were raided. Police say the move away from renting property for grow houses indicates the financial clout of those behind the trade. Many of the houses were expected to be transformed back to rental properties after less than a year, giving drug ki…

A REPORT has recommended the decriminalisation of cannabis and ecstasy in some circumstances, and the Victorian branch of the Australian Medical Association agrees a new approach is needed. The report, by a group of prominent Australians including University of Melbourne's former dean of medicine David Penington, recommends that cannabis and ecstasy be decriminalised for people aged 16 and older who are willing to be recorded on a national confidential users' register. Users would be able to buy drugs from an approved supplier, most likely a chemist. The report, prepared by non-profit group Australia21, said prohibition had failed, leaving the manufacture and supply…

They have collected it and a spokesperson said it would be disposed of. The couple will face no action from the police…

A police officer with a man accused of harvesting cannabis in San Salvador. Photograph: Yuri Cortez/AFP/Getty Images When the Uruguayan president José Mujica was asked about his proposal to make a historic break with global prohibition and put in place a legal, state-controlled market for cannabis, he replied: "Someone has to be first." In fact, recent years have seen reforms to cannabis policy and law proceeding apace around the world. The trend for decriminalisation of possession for personal use (with civil or administrative penalties replacing criminal ones) has spread across much of Europe, Latin America, and beyond. Some countries have gone further, finding vari…

Two Perth brothers have appeared in court charged with possessing cannabis with an estimated street value of more than $500,000. Police say they pulled the pair over yesterday near Eucla and allegedly discovered more than 60 kilograms of cannabis in a metal container in the tray of their ute. It is alleged William Robert Proudfoot and Harold Frank Proudfoot were transporting the drugs into WA from South Australia. They appeared in the Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court via video-link from Eucla this morning, charged with possession of the drug, with intent to sell or supply. They were refused bail and are due to face court again next month. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-09-…
