Holders also will be able to include information such as emergency contact details, allergies, health alerts, chronic illnesses, immunisation information and organ donor status. Expert: A little liquor helps houseplants Study finds diluted alcohol stunts stems but not blossoms Thursday, April 6, 2006; Posted: 4:01 p.m. EDT (20:01 GMT) ITHACA, New York (AP) -- For home gardeners who don't want their daffodils to tip over, a Cornell University horticulturist thinks he has the answer: Get the flowers a little tipsy with some hard liquor. Giving some potted plants diluted alcohol -- whiskey, vodka, gin or tequila -- stunts the growth of the stem but does not affect the blossoms, said William Miller, director of Cornell's Flower Bulb Research Program. As a result, the houseplant does not get so tall that it flops over. Miller reported his fin…

Acting Sergeant Brendan Broadbent, of Warrnambool police, said one person was found with three ecstasy tablets and a small amount of cannabis and another with one ecstasy tablet. The drugs were found as a result of the operation which involved using a Passive Alert Detector dog to detect drugs. In both instances the people were arrested near the toilets of licensed premises. A "no smoking cannabis" sign put up in Amsterdam has proved so popular with souvenir hunters that authorities are now giving the chance for it to be bought legally. The sign in the De Baarsjes district has had to be replaced three times in a week, Rinze van Opstal of the district board said on Monday, but more than 350 would-be purchasers have already ordered replicas at €90 ($107) apiece. "It is an overwhelming success, we were expecting between 10 and 20 potential buyers," he said. The proceeds of the sale of the signs will go to charity. More than 75% of the would-be buyers are from the United States, many of whom had seen it on the internet. The local ordinanc…

NEW YORK — John Lennon fans around the world on Thursday marked — with music, flowers and tearful tributes — the bitter moment 25 years ago when the rock hero was gunned down by a deranged fan. Lennon followers laid wreaths outside the New York apartment block where the musician was shot dead on Dec 8, 1980. In the English city of Liverpool, where Lennon was born 65 years ago, more than 1,000 messages to the ex-Beatle, including emails from across the globe, were released on white balloons from the city's Albert Dock. read full article here
