Im currently deciding wether or not i should start growing a few plants.

The main thing i need to decide on is what type of strain i want to try and grow.

If anyone has any tips on what i should try, let me know.

Also a good and reliable site to buy seeds from.

Cheers.

Hey blunt, If this is your first grow I would suggest using some bag seed. Only because there is a lot of little things that will effect a grow, and it's not a bad idea to start with something that isn't going to cost you an arm and leg, then learn from your mistakes pror to purchasing expensive strains. however, there are several examples on this site of people having great first grows...

serious seeds ak47 is suppsoed to be a high yielding eays to grow strain (according to serious seeds)

Give it a go man, i went out on a wing and ordered some seeds plant is coming along great! You have to start somewhere, but if you can, use some bagseed if you don't want to spend $$ right away.

If your situation allows then it's a good hobby and of course great supply of good quality herb, though I'd certainly advise against anything other than personal use due to the fact it's generally dealers who get caught and Australia's laws aren't particularly kind when it comes to growing weed.

Starting out you'll probably just want to try some bag seed as puka stated. Moving on from there what strain you'll want will depend on a number of factors e.g. indoor/outdoor autoflower/photoperiod etc. etc. Seed banks usually have these "Find your seed" selectors. Other things you'll want to take into account overall of course are medium/nutrients etc.

For the seeds check the site sponsors, Amnesia, DemonSeeds, SeaofSeeds, most people seem to be getting their stuff from there lately- also AttitudeSeedbank and Herbies. For this info though check from the front page of forum Cultivation Nursery--Breeding Rooms--Seed Bank Q&A. Plenty info there.

And of course as always the Search box in the top right (just be sure to click and pick "Forum" to search everywhere), there's of course already loads of info on everything grow related here..

Anymore info or Q's let us know people will be happy to help.

I'm in the same boat as blunt man, but do the ordered seeds have a high success rate in getting delivered?

The actual success rate is hard to determine but it seems the big ones as stated in the previous post have at least a 90% success rate. Have a read in the seed bank Q&A to see who's been getting seeds from where lately.

If you dont have any bag seed, i would recommend getting autoflowering type(s), i have only started to grow this year, and begain with Easy Ryder & Buddha White dwarf.

They took about 2 months ( give or take ) from sowing to harvest, the plants dont grow very large. I found them to be a great way to start. Depending on how you plan to grow, you can just use decent soil + decent amount of cow poo and be done with it. no need to worry about nutes while you figure out many of the other variables.

Just my 2 cents. seeds site i have had luck with herbies. 2 out of 2 orders arrived.

Well this is just a great site to read. I have only just joined yet have been running a successful business for some time now. I would recommend to any grower who wants to be successful on a small scale should do this.

Get your hands on some good seed. This will be stuff that is dense and strong. If you can, get an autoflower breed cos you can get buds at any time of the year even just before Christmas and the Equanox. Other wise you will need to time your plant to be several months before the shortest day in winter. No matter what plant you have, it should fill well and grow dense if grown to finish in June to Aug.

When you have your seeds, set up a small hydro space. This only needs a 400w HPS. Under this light it is easy to start hundreds of seeds and grow them till they are 15cm tall. This way they have the best start to life and never get eaten. Running on 18 hours it only takes about 2 weeks and the trees are ready to be moved outside.

If you are really clever and have the right breed you can sex your seedlings while sill under lights. This is done be changing the light to 10 light and 14 dark and within about 5 days you will be able to see pre-flower formation. Kill all males and change lights back to 18 light 6 dark.

Once sexed you can grow for another 10 days and then move only females outside.

Once your plants are outside, well you have done the hard work. Let the power of natural sun make your trees fat. I recommend that when trees enter multi-pistilate formation, use a hormone based P & K foliar spray ever 10 days to promote huge buds. As with all fertilizer, use about 30% of what is recommended and then adjust from there.

This is a common mistake with fert. Some breeds of weed can take heaps and some will die at the slightest hint of over fert. When giving fert, it is better to give less more often then more lest often. If you want you can feed evey day, however your mix might only be 2-3%.

Enjoy but remember the golden rule. If you are a person who needs to share your success with others, then you will have nothing but failure. Growing comes with a sacrifice, however you decide if it is worth it.

Then method I have stated is good for producing a full time income and more. One person can do this, and with the right breed you can repeat this 3 times a year. 100 seedlings is 3 backpack fulls. These all fit in an area less than 10*10. One hundred females is about 12-15 pound with a breed that only takes 12-14 weeks from start to finish. You can do this many times a year. Do you have what it takes.

Note: 42mm Pvc drain pipe cut about 12 cm long makes for good seedling containers. The top and bottom are open, so you need to stuff a little spagnum moss down first to stop the seedling mix falling out. These are good because they do not have tapered sides. This means they stack well in large none tapered containers like big paint tins. You can jump and down and your precious backpack is safe.

Anyway. Enjoy.. I hope someone gets some inspiration from this.

Starting indoor and finishing outdoor rocks. While your big trees are budding you are already growing your next round. Also it is easy to start lots of seeds indoor and just pick out the best 100. A 400W HPS will support about 250 seedlings. Also you can pre sex your trees in the comfort of your home. If you get even more tricky you bring all clones of your indoor females and just put them outdoor. You can not beat the sun for big trees and huge yealds. If you did not finish outdoor, you would need to dedicate half your house to hydro, what a pain. This method is efficient and works on a professional scale.

Sorry so long post . Now just rambling.

1 in 4 seems to be the amount of orders that don't get through (seeds from over the seas) at least that seems to be the general consensus. I've found the hardiest, high yielding, 12 wk turnaround to be "Super Skunk". What a great, easy to grow strain. Don't buy them from Nirvana seeds, they're ok, but they're not true F1 "Supers". Amsterdam Marijuana Seeds used to sell a true strain, but my last order I placed with them didn't arrive. So I ordered from Nirvana instead (who were a fair bit cheaper (now I know why)). Nice discreet packaging, 14 days, but definitely not the real deal.

Still, not bad.... (7oz average, Strong Indica)....

me go sleepy, sleepy, quite a bit these days.. :-)
