Federal and state police now have the power to use computer spyware to gather evidence in a broad range of investigations after legal changes last week.

The Surveillance Devices Act allows police to obtain a warrant to use software surveillance technologies, including systems that track and log keystrokes on a computer keyboard. The law applies to the Australian Federal Police and to state police investigating Commonwealth offences.

Wow goes to show how far behind the real threats news groups are these days , the application your refering to is Based off of something called S.A.M and it can do ALLOT more than what they tell you it can, keystrokes ect are the least of your probelms if your actually made a target for this type of survailence
S.A.M has been used as a " big brother" type application buy mainly the US for comming close to eight or ten years now, so it is not exactly something that they are JUST starting to do ,
Tom
Ok, so how do we block that sort of thing?

In all honesty SAM is the only "big brother" project that really worries me , primaraly because of the power it has and the fact that you'll never know it's there untill they come crashing through the door , nor can you do anything to stop it , besides perhaps ripping your network cables out smile.gif

once they find where your packet trail ends they place themselfs there as an appropriate spoofed Ip , and begin to record every packet that goes to and from your machine some say encrypt ALL packets leaving your network to stop peopel using an application like this but they are really just makign themselfs feel safer he he because in the end it doesn't matter what encryption you use because computers only speak one language and thats binary once it is translated to 1's and 0's it may as well not be encrypted at all

I personaly think people should worry more about mobiles, I mean with th way they are makign phones theses days a person could be tracked to their location through GPS, I look at em and think about what a nice subbtle way of dog tagging people they came up with without even really noticeing it's happened let allone complaining about it

fucking technogoy sucks when its abused by the government :thumbdown

IMO if the govt is that desperate to know what we are upto, we should know EXACTLY what they are upto and planning...ie, put cameras and mics in their offices, put programs on their computers giving any1 full access, etc....they want it from us so why should it be so wrong that we request it in return :scratchin

That was the whoel motivation and reasonsiong behind peopel liek mitnick doing what they did, they didn't feel it was right the govnerment had so much power to watch them so what they didi was use their own tools against them , mitnik pulled off phreaks in both the technical sence and the sence of being a master Social engenieer/con-man that no-one had ever dreamed of pulling off before him, he was watching the FBI,and NSA watching him and ther wasnsn't jack they could do about it.

Hell when ir nhe was finaly done and locked up Sprint upgraded there network and called it "unphreakable " within two years of being out of Gaol Mitnck once again had controll of 75% of the Las vegas Phone system to use at his disposal, the difference is this time he went to sprint showed them the issues and now makes millions working as a consultant for god knows who
