I know this is alot to read but you need to know it.

In the greatest surveillance effort ever established, the US National Security Agency (NSA) has created a global spy system, codename ECHELON, which captures and analyzes virtually every phone call, fax, email and telex message sent anywhere in the world. ECHELON is controlled by the NSA and is operated in conjunction with the Government Communications Head Quarters (GCHQ) of England, the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) of Canada, the Australian Defense Security Directorate (DSD), and the General Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) of New Zealand.

The ECHELON system is fairly simple in design: position intercept stations all over the world to capture all satellite, microwave, cellular and fiber-optic communications traffic, and then process this information through the massive computer capabilities of the NSA, including advanced voice recognition and optical character recognition (OCR) programs, and look for code words or phrases (known as the ECHELON “Dictionary”) that will prompt the computers to flag the message for recording and transcribing for future analysis. Intelligence analysts at each of the respective “listening stations” maintain separate keyword lists for them to analyze any conversation or document flagged by the system, which is then forwarded to the respective intelligence agency headquarters that requested the intercept.

So there you go, use encryption whenever possible 256bit at the very least and stay away from DES or PGP as they are suspected to have inbuilt backdoors.

Stay free :smoke

the nsa has most kinds of encryption and decryption methods known to man....hell, in america they have a team of people that constantly work to make new ones and to "crack the code" on the algorithims they already are working on....

basically what im getting at is, even if u had 1024kb encription protecting your internet communications from scum like echelon, they sure as hell have the ability to still know what ur upto....

wanna get all paranoid? a standard mobile phone, even when turned off (as long as the battery remains in place) can be used sorta like a gps and track your location, they can even turn a mobile phone thats off into a listening device and use any evidence gathered legally in court ohmy.gif

see what happens when a country like the USA get power over the world :thumbdown

In the 80's the FBI had specially designed machnes that could try cracking DES at 56000 combinations per minute, it may not sound like alot but think about the technology of the 80's (50mhz was a whole room worth of gear) and compare it to todays.

Yeah I had heard about the phone thing, thats why I stay low tech biggrin.gif safer that way.

One of the things that worries me is the introduction of RFID chips into basic products, and sometime this year into WA train/bus concession passes. The thing is that these chips all can be read by scanners like those in the front of shops from 4m away, and they all have a unique number/id built into them, so it goes on record that you bought watch with serial #56262624 and the company knows the ID of the RFID chip that is bundled with that watch. So you can pretty much be tracked if you go near any shops, but then come the handheld scanners...

Hey dude - you wanna check your story somewhat - i am a computer technician and i can tell you that the mobile phone cannot be used for anything without being turned on and activated !
Sure it can be used aas a listening device but so can any comunications device including your home phone ! - and yes in Australia it does happen.

Any device that gives off a signal of any type can be used to track - but it must be active to do so.

Like i said before do your homework on technological devices before scare mongering eh !

hate to be the barer of bad news but They have had and have used this type of technology for regular survailence since the early 80's , infact a system pretty close to one like this was what mitnik was using to tap government lines to stay ahead of them,

If your really worried and wanna be able to do somehtign about these types of problems I sugest you look into phreaking , and stick with slightly older technology

Echelon has been around since the 80's biggrin.gif though you might be thinking of carnivore but that was nothing more than a glorified packed sniffer.

The phone systems have been upgraded multiple times since the 80's so phreaking does not work, and is pretty pointless really unless you want free calls.

I have to agree that some of the older techniques are useless these days ( i.e all the box projects ect ) but there are still definalty phreakers around finding new ways of taking advantage of phones and phone networks,

the information i said b4 was taken from an echelon special on tech tv....

although it was on many months ago and im a major pot head :smoke i can remember stupid information like that and i clearly remember the part about mobiles as i swore to stay clear of them baaasmiley.gif

as for phreaking, bout the best effort i have heard of recently was a 16yo in london that got in a few fights at school and took his revenge out on their mobile services by hacking into the mobile companies and shutting down their numbers, etc.....he ended up with a few mates with $10k + phone bills for the month and all kinds of funny shit like that rolleyes.gif

about the most i have heard to echelon recently is that they need new computers as the amount of traffic they are getting daily overloads the computers and instead of filtering out key words then tracking the conversation or what ever, they want to have all traffic directed through them like a proxy server and keep track of every electronic communication world wide :thumbdown dunno if thats true, read it somewhere online so cant confirm it or anything and i dont think the guys running echelon would reveal that kind of info :thumbdown

what really pisses me off is that governments all over the world want total knowledge of what the population is upto without revealing any information about the government :thumbdown IMO if the government wants to know what we are doing we should have total knowledge of what they are upto and put webcams in every government office and a mic so we can hear em too :thumbsup i think that would be a fair trade :smoke they can know all my secrets if i know all of the governments...think they'll agree? :thumbdown
Pure
I don't think they will get away with forcing everyone to pass through a system like that simply because of how the internet itself works , to achive a gaol like the one your talking talking about they would require not only incredible man power but they would also need one on just about every main ISP server to effectly achive their goal , otherwise there is no garantee that your actualy going to pass through them , Most of the peopel who they should really be using this stuff for have gone past using the "internet " that we all commonly use for comunicating anyway

It may just be my opinion and the groups I assosiate myself with but phreakign is still very much around and peopel who don't think it is aren't " thinking outside the box "

Mobile telephone virruses, firmware hacking , simcard cloning, and yes even phone tapping still happens all the time, the pheaks never went away they just changed ideals , phreaks in the past where all about makign all this information known, these days
the good phreakers, hackers, and virus writers are quite the oposite in sharing their info with anyone outside their circle or group, allot of it is for the most part there if your looking for it

one example for instance are the pre-paid mobiles that are locked to certain networks, this can be a real pain in the ass particularly if you bought it for the phone , having knowlage in preakign allows you to not only unlock the phoen to be used buy any network.
another advantage to the knowlage in my mind is to be able to protect yourself from the "kill phone " signal that the phone companies are usign now , buy doign a little firmware hacking you can have what appears to them as a whole new phone ( or someone elses whatever the case may be )

I am not a teacher though nor am I a preacher so I will just say that it is around but it is a whole new ball game now

You just wait till people start usign more things liek internet fridges or even worse "smart houses" detective2.gif , If they think hackign now is terrorism they shoudl just wat , can you imagine comming home to 2 grand in groceries that your fridge ordered and charged it to your credit card which you keep stored cause it automates the shopping process ,

personaly I have the end of my life planned in a bunker cause it's gona be the only place safe anymore at this rate :thumbdown

simple rule to follow....the more technology u use, the easier it is to get information on u....if u dont like it, move into a bomb shelter and take nothing but food, water and a can opener laugh.gif

I remember a great story about the "anarchists cookbook" , I was informed that it was writtten by MI6 as an antiterrorism exercise in the late 80's loaded with stuff to attract the dissheveled and anti systemics with how to make hash and smoke banana skins alongside,,,,,,how to make bombs in your basement!

trouble is anyone "following"the instructions would blow themselves up!

Now that is clever stuff as any nutter goes bang without bothering anyone else , no victims - he didn have to buy/read the book and no sweeping up bits on the high street ,,,,,

this is from the days when intelligence meant something ,

to I echelon is just a big abacus with a power switch and the big secret is that the "data barrier" was passed many years ago , this means there is more data gathered than can ever be input ed in millions of operators lifetimes let alone anal eyes' d by herds of nerds who have as much common sense as the efficient chips they work with,,,,,,

identity what is it anyways, more technology means its easier to make hundreds of identities in the silly cone world ,,,,

I know beings who made up their own encoded language in engish together for use betweeen countries , any hacker/cracker NSA worker will tell you it is UNCRACKABLE ,,,,,,,,

Remember "pretty good privacy" wasd welcomed by many and how it was revealed that it was an NSA device and easily crackable by coders , how many beings fell for that one!

maybe everything is no thing observing itself,,,,

Interesting. I was thinking about getting PGP. Can you supply more detail?

Thanx.

A friend who is into stealth has always supplied me with websites etc that deal with security. mitnick style and sites with millions of search engines for drivers licence etc that private investigators use for finding people , this particular site isnt public acccess anymore but over 5 years ago they were having public pgp cracking demo's cracking the keys and accessing , to show that it isnt safe , it is the old maxim of persuade everyone that there is a free dig it all padlock that is titanically foolpoof whilst always having the Skeleton Key!

As mentioned above any cyptologist knows that two or more beings creating their language is Uncrackable , as syntax can be shuffled like tarot cards ,oi pack us another Lexicone,,,,,,,,

meditate on how many beings it would take to watch billions of beings , even with super fast technology which is only the machinations of the egoic mind ,

One neuron is more powerfull than all of the worlds super compters chips running in parralell and the are billions of them running in parralell , some say as many as there are stars in the universe ,

who has the real power?
