Depends.
Sometimes I like to listen to laid back stuff, Donovan Frankenreiter, jack johnson, ben harper, goes very well. Throw some marley in there and you're set for an afternoon in the sun.
If i'm getting really, really f@cked up - underworld, that sort of stuff. Rez Cowgirl is a favourite stoner track!
Also some hip hop, Deltron 3030, beasties, etc.
Pink Floyd, Tool, heaps of random stuff.

Monster Magnet. The band that invented "Stoner Rock". 25.....Tab is the best psychedelic album of all time, it increases the potency of whatever drug you're on!

Yeah, I suppose I do have kinda diverse tastes in music, but psychedelic trance tops the list. I'm living in a country where I can't get and actually don't want to do drugs and I still listen to hard core trance. I've come to the realisation that I actually like the music first and foremost these days. I do have an Australian holiday coming up though, so I'll take the opportunity to get some new music and enjoy it in an 'enhanced' state. After a year away from it though, decent weed can actually have a psychedelic effect on the rested psychonaut. As I've been through it before it's actually kinda funny to think just how little you need to get you completely wasted. One small cone and you're right for an hour or four. Just to have actual weed in your hand again is daunting as you're just a big toke away from a whited out, cold sweating, vomiting kinda nightmare. You gotta slowly ease back in to it, and as soon as you're back again, you're off again for another weed free year. Strange that weed alone can make for tripping music!

Lately the music I've been cranking the most when stoned is either Jefferson Airplane, Infected Mushroom, Switchblade Symphony or Skinny Puppy...
hehe, it's fucking fun to chop up with White Rabbit looping

Mushroom is best for the phase coming up-> fucking stoned, when I just eat and let those tunes melt into my head until it floats away...then I like to move on to gothic/industrial to maximise the plateau and wage my own little personal battle against civilisation...

...I usually start chatting on IRC and MSN about then.
Well that's what works for me anyway

Have your heard King Crimson's 21st Century Schitzoid Man Pickle? Now that's some good shit, although I dunno if I'd try it tripping.
Pickle
Feb 8 2005, 11:24 AM
Yeah, vinyl is mellow and smooth, it doesn't jangle and ping in your ears like CD's do. Sure SBS isn't mellow but the sound is a lot cruisier than a lot of modern music, even on CD.
I havn't heard King Crimson, i was very picky back in the day, thankfully my tastes have broadened and i listen to everything... Well there are a few things that still offend my ear like wacko jacko and squeaky girl pop and i am not fond of croaking girls so britany is on my list (if i want to hear croaking i'll listen to the frogs when it rains).
I still get a kick out of music so i wouldn't listen to a lot of the newer music (i like stuff like industrial and edgier stuff) as i think it would get me too hyped up. I recon late 70's and before is the best kind of music to listen to with a few exceptions like ben harper and Jack Johnson, cruisey mellow stuff.
I think stuff like Primus, T.I.S.M. and Machine Gun Felatio would be good for a bit of a giggle.
goonie
Feb 8 2005, 11:33 PM
Primus are way cool, love that funky assed bass. For pure mind destroying trip music though, try Black Lung. They are (were?) an Aussie outfit who promised 100% recycled sounds and delivered pure mind destruction while tripping. I'd love to hear them again just to see if they're as harecore as I remember.

Hey everyone, anyone up for a music swap? If you've checked out the tokin' tunes thread you'll see that Infinitee offered to swap music with me. We've swapped some good tunes so far (always wanted a copy of the song 'Up in Smoke' from the end of the Cheech and Chong film and he provided it. Thanks heaps Infinitee, I appreciate it mate!) Basically we did the PM thing and then traded e-mail addresses. So far we've traded a lot of really good music and it's all going well. It's based around trance/techno, but I just sent him a couple of other songs that rock. I'd really like to find anyone else interested in swapping MP3 files through e-mail. Basically I'm into Goa/Psytrance/Nu NRG/Hard Trance and will willingly swap songs with anyone who's prepared to share. Ask Infinitee by Pm if you're sceptical, I will reply to any genuine offer.

Since my last post my stoned music has changed a bit...lately if I'm at home and stoned alone, it will be Led Zeppelin or Kraftwerk.
I was introduced to the Mars Volta stoned out of my mind the other night...was an intense trip, especially when lying next to the stereo.

Floyd fans should listen to "Dub Side of the Moon" by Easy Star All Stars. It's a worthy re-creation of the well-known masterpiece. I was doubtful, but I was wrong. When you hear that cat hittin' hard on the bong then coughing his guts up during the intro to Money, you know you're in the right zone. Good laugh, that.
My top ten goony artists:
Joe Strummer (ex-Clash) & the Mescalleros
Afro-Celt Sound System
Nick Cave
Radiohead (esp 'Amnesia' - the Pyramid Song is a trip)
The Orb
Frank Zappa
Pink Floyd (esp featuring Syd Barrett)
Burning Spear
The Pogues
