ok well there is a version 2 of this awesome program coming out shortly...not too sure about when but i assure u that this program is a MUST download....

in the past i have run zone alarm and sygate firewalls at the same time and still rejected like 6500 connections to my computer using peerguardian...this actually only happened the other day to me again ohmy.gif

version 2 seems to have like twice the amount of banned ip's and will have better abilities coded in so it uses less cpu and blocks even more connections :thumbsup

cant wait for its release and i think any1 who goes online should no MUST have this program as well as a decent firewall....its bad enough the govt. wants ur info, dont let big ass corps like microsoft, warner, pepsi (yes they have tried to get into my pc ohmy.gif ), coke, etc get any information from u....block them and give them a big fuck u in return :thumbsup

well version 2 has been released for a bit, some people love it, personally i think it still needs alot of work as i cant get the fucker to work on here :scratchin

none the less, the stable version v1.99 pr14-3 is still a kick ass program that everyone should atleast try out...

i have also found a site that works on the same kinda projects (ie. keeping our privacy private) and it has a top program that will import all kinds of block lists and then export a massive blocklist for you :thumbsup its the Blocklist Manager...chews a fuckload of memory so if u dont have 256MB+ of RAM, i wouldnt bother with it unless your patient and/or worried about your privacy online :thumbdown

Bluetack internet security solutions

they claim their "protowall" is good for blocking these "bad IP's" but i couldnt get the fricken thing working and with the help section it got a bit over my head so i decided to just use the blocklist manager and pump up my peer guardian....

basically using the blocklist manager, peer guardian went from blocking 15,000 odd IP ranges to blocking over 100,000 ohmy.gif

the only problem i had was the blocklist manager dying when it tried to download the edu blocklist so i went to the site and downloaded it myself along with the rest of the blocklists so i could import them offline...now when u go to this page to download the lists, it'll say u gotta be a donator, i say BAH to that and copied the link into download accelerator plus and downloaded the lists anyways tongue.gif

http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/

copy that into your browser, it'll come up with the list and then u copy it again into DAP along with the file name and it should download all good :thumbsup

the rest is well pretty easy, if u cant work it out, i would just have a look around the programs and get a feel of them before u make any major changes....

my major change, peerguardian used to only use like 30MB memory, using 145MB now ohmy.gif but for surfing the net, i can spare that but the 20 mins loading was a tad bullshit, lets hope in the future it loads a lil quicker

Connection Rejected: 172.214.60.73 - America Online, Estaloka.com AP2P, SubSeven attack (03-23-2005 @ 09:05:30)

got 1205 of them in under 15 mins and its still counting...do u feel safe? i sure do baaasmiley.gif

SubSeven attack

I hope you havent got subseven servers on your hard drive mate??
Pure
This application will not protect you from any enforcement department , you have to understand the power they have and where they can put themselfs now , If you have a conection to the outside world it can be comprimised buy authorities , a way to avoid it would be to start up your own ISP but even then most of the lines in our country which your information treavels down are telstra who are 52% owned buy who ? .... the government

this aplication will Protect you from scrpt kiddies unless they have the exploit script for your application but it's not gonna keep out anyone of real concern imo it is only an application copy of packet and ip filtering the difference is the holes that the application has that you can get rid of on a true sytem

the chances of actually beign a targeted victim of a hacker is less than 40% , if you take script kids away it probably drops to about 15% or 20% most attacks are pure and simply random , they scan large Ip ranges to find peopel and then use the info they get , most of the people that do this style though are just punk kids using shit liek sub 7 or other lame trojans that decnt hackers wrote for em tongue.gif

You can't stop leo from watchign you completly but you can sure as hell make thier job allot harder, slow em down and put up traps to inform you they are comming

If you wanna protect your actual onsite data and I am not kiding here , hook a powerfull magnet up to your pc 's case on eighter side and hook it to a power source with a switch , if the day ever comes that your beign raided throw the switch and say good buy to your data it is a dirty method and has a 95% success rate ( I have heard of really good forensic people partially recovering damaged drives ) but it's the best shot you have to destroy evidence in the short period your realalisticly get from that heavy knock
, purge applications and efficient zeroing software takes a bit of time to run and they could just pull the power plug uless you are runnign off an internal source of power
F420
how about things like evidence eliminator? they claim that it prevents those forensic tests etc??
Pure
evedence elimenator is a widley used " file shredder" meanign it deletes it a few times , they say 7 times can't be recovered and it's true it's hard after that even from profesionals but it is sill very possible ther was a cse with the one tell servers when they where liquidated someone recovered a database with peoples personal information including credit cards, the person was caught though and that was before zeroing technologies came out , the difference is that they not only delete the file they write over it again and again , leaving noting but a blank drive at the end of it , this is completley unrecoverable

But the downside of them both is it takes allot of time to run an application like that on a large hard drive and when it comes to the crunch you really don't have that time ,
it was never intended as a true security mesure it was designed for peopel wantign to hide thier tracks when goign to porn sites it just kinda took off a laugh.gif
WantDaChronic
none the less, its blocking alot of shit that i would prefer not to have access to my computer...hell if i dont start the connection, it shouldnt have any right to access my pc so anything that peer guardian is blocking is fine by me.
