ive beleived this for years... remember when the mobile network went digital?????? and people didnt even question why. Why would they change an analogue system thats worked perfect, no drop outs and robot type speach crap going on.... to digital which is by far a more inferior system..even 10 years down the track, its still crap reception, in MOST places...

digital phones can be pinpointed within 1m square radius..... the analogue was on a 5klm square grid....explained to me by a friend who works for telecom...... this makes tracking people easier for digital....and now this.......

cant be done with analogue..... only digital......

Hmmm......facts or paranoia?
Gazza2001au
paranoia is a good thing it keeps u aware of ur surroundings and whats going on :laugh.gif:

Digital is clearly a superior system to analogue. Look at a digital TV picture! Isn't it clearer than analogue? Same applies to the phone system.

"And if you have to have a cell phone, take the batteries out of them whenever you have a business conversation or are going to a business meeting or grow house," he advised. "People guess that police might listen in on cell conversations. That's true. What they don't know is that police can listen in on any conversation you have when a cell is in the same room as the conversation."

As for listening to conversations while you mobile is off..... baaasmiley.gif Note he is NOTsaying turn the mobile off, he is saying take the batteries out!

I would ask how much battery power is used when your phone is switched off! Answer, none. Therefore it can make no difference whether the batteries are out or the phone is just switched off.

This sounds like total paranoid BS to me!

Gazza, there is a huge difference between paranoia and caution. Paranoia is characterised by irrational fears and is a disease. No one needs that. Caution, however is a little different and is desirable.
Gazza2001au
ive had paranoia for 10 or 11 years its been keeping me safe :laugh.gif: it does have its good and bads thought....

Sorry to hear it. peace.gif

Take the battery out, it's the only way to stop them tracking you, just turning it off is not enough.

Edit: Oh yeah, my mobile hasn't been on a plan for about 4 months (and believe it or not but i occasionally get spam) yet it still needs charging every couple of days, saying the battery doesn't wear down if it isn't used is not true. What do you think powers the LCD screen and memory?
Gazza2001au
i leave it at home now :scratchin

:scratchin When I turn my phone off the LCD screen goes off and stays off. I can not send or receive calls / SMS and myt battery does not discharge.

Non-volatile information is kept on your SIM card which does not require any power. Taking the battery out proves that! See...still got your numbers stored in there!

So let me get this straight. You are telling me you leave your phone OFF and your battery discharges? Read my post carefully. I said it will not discharge if OFF. I did not say if not used.

Anyway, I would love to hear how you can be tracked with a mobile phone that is off?

Shit it's like an Old Fart's meeting in here.....hahahaha.

Anyone could listen in to analogue, all you needed was a scanner,
digital can't be listened into by the average tandy bought stuff.

What did we all do before mobile phones? Seems people look at you weird
when you say sorry don't have one.

While I'm on the subject... what is wrong with ....ring...fucking....ring...?

Why does some fucker have to sing a song or have some techno mix whenever the phone rings?

those ringtones piss me off severly, but the worst thing about mobile phones is all those goddamn ads on tv for ringtones, dating clubs, games, etc. its never ending gun2.gif

How does it keep time?
ffc99
This is not the point.....fark....how does a mobile phone, turned OFF, but batteries in, slowly discharging as a small amount of current ebbs away to run the clock, and all personal data on a SIM, get tracked by LEO?
Gazza2001au
lithium polymere or li-ion batterys found in mobiles will discharge over a few months without being used or even detached from the phone they just self discharge
i see how leo could use the mic as a listing device while the phone is on but i doubt it could be used when the phone is off :scratchin

From the battery, turning a phone off turns the phone functions off. What the original article is suggesting is that phones that are turned off aren't actually off, or they can be turned on remotely to allow LEO to listen in. I'm sceptical, but hey there's got to be some GSM sites out there detailing what the hardware is capable of. A LEO backdoor to remotely trigger a call without changing the display or ringtone is entirely possible, but not very likely.

Sounds like a paranoia article to me. When its off, its off. If it was constantly transmitting [recordings] it would drain battery power like crazy (worse than a 3G phone tongue.gif).

In regard to listening in on conversations, the govt just grab a warrant (afaik, for now they need to show cause..., Ianal) and they're off. Your calls are only encrypted between handset and base station, not end-to-end. :thumbdown Just look at how pissed off the governments are about wanting powers to intercept and log internet traffic, ever wondered why they're mellow about traditional communication systems, they've already got all the power they need!

As for tracking, if you have access to cell towers its simple trigonometry, 3 points with signal levels, and you can pinpoint the location (to what accuracy ?). At worse they can identify which cell tower your logged onto (<3km or so radius).

I remember on one of those real crime shows on TV they used cell phone tracking as evidence. It showed the suspects going between the crime scenes and back home. The scary bit is, why were they tracking their movements before they had reason to (ie, before and during the crime).

Its total paranoia! Even when you are not moving you sometimes switch between cell base stations. They could not pinpoint you with this! With the phone on or off. And they are not doing anything if the phone is off, batteries in or out!

[size=7]I was reading this thread and had to join to put in my 2cents worth. If the battery is in your mobile phone they can track you without any shadow of a doubt. Thats how they caught Pablo.
I recently read the book Killing Pablo by Mark Bowden. This book was basically the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar the Columbian El Pedrino of Cocaine. and in this book it described in great detail the methods the American DEA used to destroyed his network and destroyed the man.
Now they had attempts to assassinate him and arrest him but everything failed because Pablo "owned" that country and nothing could be done as long as they used Columbians to do it. Anyway to cut a long story short. There is a section in the book about how they tracked his movements for months simply by following the location of his mobile phone and it even specifies in the book that AS LONG AS THE BATTERY IS IN THE PHONE IT CAN BE TRACKED WHETHER IT IS TURNED ON OR OFF!!!!
When was Pablo Escobar caught???
1993.
Thats right 13 fucking years ago they had the technology to track mobile phones when they are turned off.
Even in the movie The Fast and the Furious (1999) they do a cell phone trace on a highway somewhere out in the desert during the bungled truck hijack attempt. If you have seen the movie you know what I am talking about. wake up all you non believers please!!!
If you think they can't track you then go back to watching wheel of fortune and channel 9 news please coz this shit is real

I just clicked on the link. It seems that now Marc Emery is in jail that they have shut down his network too. Cannabisculture.com is now gone, just like overgrow.com. Seems George Sr. wants to eliminate his competition from over the border
