Hunter S Thomson,
mmm lets see, not your adverage jounalist by no meens...this guy is clearly off tap.
R.I.P. Hunter....
sadly committing suicide last year by pointing a hand gun at his head..but not b4 he he played a cameo in this movie....try and spot him...
Brilliantly played by Johnny Depp ( is there any one this guy cant impersonate), this movie goes back to 70's where Hunter and his Lawyer visit Las Vegas to cover the infamous MINT 400 desert race..well ya dont see much racing but a shit load of chaotic drug taking...
the same day I watched this movie I watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with Johnny Depp....clearly the best character actor I have ever seen....
two movies well worth watching stoned or otherwise I think...
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas......
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory......

Hunter was a great man, he said things as they where not how people wanted to hear them , he was also my absolute favorite author, even the early hemmingway influenced stuff like the rum diaries
If you liked the movie based on the book YOU WOULD LOVE the book itself
if your a political junky check out fear and loathign on the campain trail

Saw it last time for the first time. Watched it back to back with the Matrix. I had serious doubts about the Matrix, but wow. Very very interesting to watch. Would love to see it again sometime a little more grounded. Last time it got messy messy, I don't smoke joints much and they sent me somewhere else.

I am up to the part where they cover the antidrug convention... what a crack up. :

:
I cant pick my faved part, the whole movie cracked me up so much, i really will need to watch it again...
maybe the part where they pick up the hitchhiker...(toby Maguire) right at the start.
damn if those guys picked me up it would have been a whole different movie.. :

: probably even more off tap if it was possible.....
I would like to get some more of what Hunter has written.. sounds like my sort of read...... actually sounds like a lot of the benders Ive been on... maybe that is how I can relate.. :

Man im sorry but i couldnt stand this movie. I didnt end up watching the whole thing me n my mate went in the kitchen and threw bits of paper in the bin until the other two finished watching it...
It had no decent plot, you could barely understand a thing he said...
Only good bit was the amount of drugs he had.
p.s im never doing acid simply from seeing how much he tripped out

I love this movie. Hunter S is a big hero of mine, and honestly anyone who did as much coke and meth as he did should have dropped dead of a heart attack at age 40! It is my belief that he was murdered, he was doing alot of research into 9/11 etc .... anyway CONSPIRACY!

Have you guys seen Requiem for a Dream? Its a bloody great movie.

I heard a while back that they're in the process of adapting "The Rum Diaries" to sreen, Jonny Depp is playing the part of Paul Kemp, and Benicio Del Toro is directing ("because he understands the spirit of South America - Thompson).
Along with Fear and Loathing, there is also Where The Buffalo Roam. It's not as abstract/philosphical as Fear and Loathing, but IMO it's better...... cause Bill Murray plays Thompson, and if it came to beat downs Depp would get a well deserved flogging from the man. you're fucking with a ghost buster, mother bitches. Oh, and Lazlo is played by Peter Boyle (the god-like farther in Everybody Loves Raymond). Based on the book, and revolves mainly around the Nixon Campaign.
I've seen Requiem for a Dream a couple of times, and never again. Good movie though. I feel sick....

Just how does one get onto these free movies on the net?
need a torrent site or something?
I like requiem of a dream for it's real life stuff. I mean it can really go those places quick right? I mean am I the only one that's suffered amphetamine induce pyscosis? Lost veins to needles? serious withdrawals?
It's an ok movie for that, but I wouldn't reccomend it to the squeemish . I mean it's just not a "light and easy"" movie is it?

Still, it's good.
So to is fear and Laothing in vegas. Love to know where the real bloke makes the appearance. that'd be worth a squizz. wouldn't know him if I fell over him though. It'd have to be well and easy to see. for me at least.
cheers

My favorite quote :
"The sporting editors had also given me $300 in cash, most of
which was already spent on extremely dangerous drugs. The trunk of
the car looked like a mobile police narcotics lab. We had two bags
of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered
blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy
of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers . . . and
also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a
pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls."
: nice list but just a little short on grass - unles they're pound bags

It is just not the same without -
"All this had been rounded up the night before, in a frenzy of
high-speed driving all over Los Angeles County -- from Topanga to
Watts, we picked up everything we could get our hands on. Not that
we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked
into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far
as you can"

I pretty much agree with ya Highrising ,
Maybe don't need to have had Acid or anything before , But It is a Stoner movie isn't it.

I can't wait to see it again ... i was gigglin just readin this thread and thinkin bout it

I haven't heard of "Where the Buffalo Roam" as Rhizo mentioned .. I'll have to keep my eye out for it ..
And I may have seen "Requim for a dream" but I don't remember it at all ..
Hope they do that new one too ... "The Rum Diaries" ..
I dunno about Torrents , looks like I gotta visit Blockbuster again sometime soon .. (And buy some blank Dvds)

O.k. Well , I don't really know why I felt the need to say that ... But It's a great movie anyhow .. and Johnny Depp is a legend.

i was hooked the first time i watched it, although i think you have to see it a few times to pick up on almost every thing and actually apriciate what is goin on in that movie, i find now a days it sort of makes me sad to watch this movie, most people seem to find it funny and uplifting as i did when i first watched it but now knowing what became of the world they they were pushing to create and knowing about hunters demise i find the movie to be rather sad.
theres also a good documentry to look out for its called
Fear and Loathing on the Road to Hollywood
it was a Hunter S Thompson BBC Documentary about the trip to las vegas and had a lot of good fotage of hunter on it, it also has where he wanted this huge monument made in his back yard that his ashes could be fired from, they have him talking about it and showing the plans to some people, by the time he died he didnt have the cash left for it to be built, so jonny depp paid for it to be built and paid for the funeral. any way just some random trivia for any one that can be bothered reading this whole post

The book was fantastic...shame about the movie.
Any Hunter S Thompson book is worth reading but none of them should be made into movies.

I read the book and seen the movie, I thought they were equally good. The movie deviated from the book in some minor details but I thought the movie was true to the book in most ways. I believe Thompson thought very highly of the movie himself and I think he even referred to it as a work of art, and I would have to agree.

I just downloaded this and watched it twice. I really really got into this movie. Very clever, uncomfortable, insanely funny, a real taste of life on the edge with the painful sense of a generation lost, all rolled into one, full on, no holds barred, take it to the absolute fucking limit and stand on it further stories. A true classic. Brilliant

The first time i watched this movie, i was quite stoned and partially drunk but i understood this movie completely.
Every second of it, i was staring open mouthed without knowing just watching and taking in everything.
Greatest movie ever in it's category.
I love it, 5 gold stars!
I stick it on repeat as i go to sleep. As someone said on the first page, "it's the closest thing you can get to an acid trip, without the LSD".. I agree, haha.

When my wife and I are at a loss for something to do, and she suggests we slip a DVD in the machine, about 30 seconds later I hear "not "fear and Loathing again"..

I have to have seen that movie so many times I could be any one of their under-studies.
"When being pulled over by a cop, most make the mistake of actually stopping. This is a mistake as it creates contempt in the cop mind for the driver. Go faster- he will follow."
But above all the humor, the dark humor, the dark reality and sad reflections of "civility" culminating in Les Vegas, the shit hole of all that's excessive...there is some of the most inisghtful writing/commentary I have ever encountered. the man was a genuise writer, who's sandlas I wish I were good enough to untie. Seriously , a word mechanic of endless depth.
I'd have my left arm cut off to be a successful writer, and all Hunter Thomas does is rub my face in how I will never measure to the standard that's been set by at least he.
Gonzo's cicus, what the whole hip world would be doing if the nazis won the war, ...I mean it's funny, and yet true and scary insight of just where the minds of freaks (straight freaks) go.
cheers
