The simple solution is to turn it off, and with toold like ERD commander, i might as well, but it keeps 90% of people out.

ok basically unless you know someone with xp as well that can create a password reset disk for you, your gonna have to format your computer and install everything again

i read that you can just do a clean install of windows and then copy your files that you wanna keep to disk or what ever, but it will fuck all the prgrams so it would be in your best interest to do a clean install after a format once those files are copied

Did you use the password hint feature when you created the password?

This place allows you to recover your password, it does take 48 hrs though, but if you want it real bad you can pay (dunno how much, personally i'd wait) and it prioritises it and you should have it in 10 minutes.

Haha, nah it's all good people - I'm a network admin (I remember millions of passwords) and I have a bootable CD with ERD commander that can reset anyone's XP password anyways, but it's a severe problem

AFTER TOO MANY CONES!!! I sit there for a min or two staringly blankly at the screen before realising the password itself is "PASSWORD".

Unless you use an encrypting file-system (something most stoners haven't even seen), you never have to reinstall if you just lose your windows password.

You don't have to pay, or wait, or anything, you just need the following to fix it:

1. A working PC with Internet Connection and floppy-drive.
2. This website: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

There are several "Linux Boot-Disks" that are freely downloadable and can be used to recover Windows XP passwords.

That is all, but yeah - don't reinstall, recover!

ok I have a ? I share this pc with my wife we both have a separate user log on and when I log in using my user everything opens in notepad even start-up programs I'm not dumb in the pc area but I can't seem to figure out what happened , this does not happen when my wife logs on thats how I'm able to ask this

Just a guess but does your wife have the admin account and has she denied users software privaledges?
