Hey Pure, just copped this alert from my new upgrade of Zone Alarm.

QUOTE(From ZoneAlarm)
MSN Messenger is trying to monitor your system to observe what events are occurring.

The current security setting for MSN Messenger does not permit this action, or else ZoneAlarm Security Suite is asking you whether you wish to allow this behavior or not. Your computer is safe.

What should I do?

If MSN Messenger needs to monitor your system to observe what events are occurring and you trust this program, then give it permission. If you do not trust this program or the program does not need to monitor your system then deny it. If you are unsure, you can always deny access and run the program again, if it is required.

Why?

MSN Messenger is potentially malicious. It may be attempting to monitor your system to observe what events are occurring to retrieve information about you or your system.
Your opinion for those of us stuck with XP and the other MacroShit bug ridden crap like msn?

Personall I won't touch MSN Messenger with a 10-foot pole, infact I even hate the fact people use their damned chat network let alone the shitty client.

You can download "Trillian" from here:

http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

Trilllian is an free chat client that allows you to use ICQ, MSN, AOL, Yahoo, and various other chat networks from the one client.

I know I'm not Pure, but this is what I would reccomend, and uninstall that stupid MSN Messenger client wink.gif

I'm fully aware they use the same network, however Trillian is a far, far, far superior client than Microsoft's own crap.

IRC isn't that great either, as IP's are visible to the host of the server at least.
I've been thinking of how best to anonimise chat, however the best solution currently is to use 3rd-party zombied PC's as a conduit, however that's less than ethical wink.gif

But I digress - for now, I'm happy to use Trillian with people I trust are not LEO's in disguise wink.gif

Huh? Since when? huh.gif

Trillian Basic (the free version) contains no spyware that any of the tools I use at work to scan for spyware can recognise...

I have only ever heard once about someone saying that they saw some strange packets leave their box and go to some stat-collecting server and they thought it might be Trillian that did it, but I'm pretty sure it was confirmed some other viral-marketing program was tracking their internet-usage.

Why do you think Trillian contains Spyware?

Also, in terms of "tracking", MSN Messenger is a billion times worse for that than Trillian.

Microsoft has several black marks against them for breaking their customers privacy rights - Cerulean Studios (the developers of Trillian) is yet to have one as far as I'm aware.
mecanabis
yeah, all round MSN sucks....but thats pretty much a given for Micro$oft

go trillian...or google talk, if u have a Gmail account..

(btw if anyone wants a Google email account just let me know and ill invite you)
Pure
umm fuck msn hows aboot that for my opinion tongue.gif

naa seriously though your far better off using trillian or another thirdparty client there are thousands of em out there you just have to sift through to see what you like

I currently use what I hope to eventually be the Ozstoners chat application which allows aol, yahoo, icq ,msn , irc and also what is to be the OSA chat/messenger ( shhh it's a secret tongue.gif) I wouldn't say it's the best or most secrure application buy anymeans as it's still in very early beta and chat protocols and features themselfs have problems ( perfect example is the new nudge feature in msn) but it is largley based off of the trillian source which I have found to be one of the best if not the best third party application that i have tested

Before people ask the application is not available to anyone yet and it won't be untill I am happy enough with it to release a beta version however closer to the end of the year ( probably november ) I will release it to the 420 crew to test out for themselfs then early next year once I have the feed back and fix anything I missed I will release the application to the general comunity for use

untill then though i sugest you give trillian a try , there is a paid version ( which I think is actually worth the cost but thats besides the point ) and there is also a free version available for download, alternativly you could search your favorite torrent sites and see what you come up with as i'm sure there are more than enough people seeding the full version of trillian

as for irc well it's probably my pet hate when it comes to chat platforms for many reasons the top of the list begins with the huge security issues it has

Yeah, I'm using Trillian at the moment and find it adds a lot of stability to MSN.
